Week of August 7th Learning Academy Sessions

Below is a list of sessions and descriptions offered during the week of August 7th.  All courses will run Monday-Thursday from 8:30-11:30 unless otherwise noted.  

Computer Science and Technology

The Design Process - Mr. Fazio
Indian Hills High School, Please report to the front entrance of the high school by 8:30 AM

In this course students will solve real world problems using math, science, and technology.  Activities will include using the problem solving design loop.  Student learning activities will promote imagination, judgment, and reasoning skills. Research, designing and drawing, some woodworking, and engineering challenges will be incorporated in student centered learning activities.

English

ELA 9 Bootcamp - Ms. Budesheim
Ramapo High School, Please report to the front entrance of the high school by 8:30am
This is a course for incoming freshmen designed to provide students with the critical reading, writing, and study/organizational skills to more smoothly adjust to the expectations of a high school English course. Some of the skills that will be addressed include close reading, vocabulary in context, and critical analysis, as well as organizational skills with technology. 

Mathematics

Geometry Bootcamp - Ms. Dinan

Indian Hills High School, Please report to the front entrance of the high school by 8:30am

In this course, students will review and master Algebra 1 concepts from last year that they will be using in Geometry, such as factoring, PEMDAS, graphing linear equations, simplifying radicals (pythagorean theorem), and finding basic shapes perimeter, area, and circumference. In addition to direct instruction, students will work collaboratively with each other to complete fun activities involving these concepts. 

Visual and Performing Arts

Creative Art through Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture - Ms. Gibson
Ramapo High School, Please report to the front of the building / main entrance by 8:30 AM

In this course students will be building upon their prior art knowledge as well as exploring new techniques in the art studio.  Students will work to develop their skills in one of the following mediums; drawing, painting, and/or ceramics & sculpture.  The week-long course will consist of conceptualizing an idea, planning the idea, and creating their work of art in the medium of their choice. Students will be given a list of prompts at the beginning of the week.  


Digital Arts & Photography - Ms. Higbie

Ramapo High School, Please report to the front of the building / main entrance by 8:30 AM

In this course, student artists will be introduced to basic digital art tools and gain a better understanding of Photoshop and Procreate by creating digital works of art. The goal of this course is for student artists to learn the skills necessary to create digital illustrations, poster designs and to learn basic photo editing skills. Students will also be introduced to basic concepts in digital photography, including understanding and using a DSLR camera, lenses, composition, and other basic photographic equipment.
