This course is designed for students interested in vocational and technical training. Students can expect to learn the technical aspects of the language arts principles. This is an intermediate course which contains the basics of language arts, i.e. reading, vocabulary, writing, listening, and speaking with particular emphasis on their relationship to practical applications. This course furthers the knowledge gained in the English II course. Included in the course may be a research paper and other formal writings.
Much of the texts for this course focus on the foundations of story telling, then move into the eras of American Literature from Puritanism through the modern period. These include seminal texts and speeches such as the Declaration of Independence, the Gettysburg Address, the Declaration of the Rights of Women, Speech to the Second Virginia Convention, and several others.
