This course is designed for students planning on attending college after high school or have a strong interest in the study of language arts. This course includes a detailed study of grammar usage, spelling, vocabulary, composition, communication skills, and the genres of literature. Formal grammar lessons help develop and build on previous knowledge in the parts of speech and in sentence and paragraph structure. Composition will include paragraph construction and the composing of expository themes and narratives. The genres of world literature studied will be the short story, poetry, novels, and plays. There is an intensive research paper requirement in the second semester of the course.
