"If you have a passion and enthusiasm for Art, then this is definitely the course for you. I have loved the course so far and love the flexibility and freedom you are given to create your own interpretation of the assignments. I have tested many types of media which I have never used before or felt comfortable with, which was an interesting experience. Art has allowed me to grow so much as an artist. Not only has it introduced me to new materials but also, ideas too. I really love how you can bounce ideas off the lovely Art teachers and students, shaping new concepts. The Art teachers are extremely helpful and supportive when it comes to completing assignments. Art can develop key skills that you can carry through to the future and later education. Skills such as confidence, resilience, organisation, time management, interpretation skills, creative thinking, analytical skills, thinking skills and so much more. There are also many art opportunities available such as competitions to take part in. It is a great course to take".
Whether you prefer a Botticelli at The National Gallery or a Banksy on Brick Lane, you will learn how to accomplish your own personal style through studying art at Riddlesdown Collegiate. You will work independently through student led projects, which mirror the reality of working within creative industries. Personal interpretation of artists’ work and your own ideas will be the driving force to create exciting and imaginative pieces, which will be on display in the @RC Gallery.
There are four assessment objectives in art which you will cover in each project. Each assessment objective includes visual and written content.
AO1 - Develop ideas through investigations, demonstrating critical understanding of sources
AO2 - Refine work by exploring ideas, selecting and experimenting with appropriate media, materials, techniques and processes
AO3 - Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions as work progresses
AO4 - Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and demonstrates understanding of visual language

"Art is the subject I look forward to doing every week, it is so rewarding and so much fun to throw yourself into a project. Art GCSE allows you to discover your hidden skills, being creative and able to express yourself. I love it because it allows me to show off my abilities and my individuality like no other subject".
"I have really enjoyed Art since picking it as an option. Before, I was very limited with my ideas and resources - I often stuck with the same 2B pencil portrait sketches. But now, I am confident with exploring various mediums and themes - allowing me to improve and hone vital skills as well as grow as an artist".
