Digital Photography
Digital Photography helps to develop competency in the digital darkroom through lessons and projects that teach photographic concepts, composition, and principles of 2-dimensional design. Students will be required to keep their own portfolio through a process that includes research, practice and reflection.

This VAPA aligned,college prep class focuses on studio projects of selected artworks, artists, cultural and historical phenomena and aesthetics. Different media is explored including drawing, painting, collage, sculpting, paper mâché and printmaking.

Animation
Animation I is a revised course that exposes students to the skills concepts and theories in animation in an artist-scholar mindset that includes the integration of technical abilities, reading, writing and reflection with the incorporation of computer technology.

Drawing and Painting
Students are exposed to basic two dimensional drawing and painting skills, techniques, history, theories, and ideologies. Although art making is a dominant component in the class, there is an artist-scholar mindset where reading, writing and the ability to communicate ideas and opinions are also major goals.

Ceramics
This VAPA aligned college prep course explores a variety of ceramic sculptural experiences. Form and function are highlighted with emphasis on how ceramics and related arts have influenced mankind's cultural, social and economic development.

Advanced Ceramics
This course further develops the skills, techniques, and aesthetic sensibilities of students, including fundamental concepts, historical and contemporary references, art criticism, and creative expression.

AP 2-D Art and Design
AP 2-D Art and Design is an introductory college-level two-dimensional design course. Students refine and apply 2-D skills to ideas they develop throughout the course. The AP Art and Design course framework is composed of course skills, big ideas, essential questions and enduring understandings, learning objectives, and essential knowledge. AP Art and Design skill categories delineate overarching understandings central to the study and practice of art and design. In May, students submit their 2-D portfolio.

Theater
Theater I
This VAPA aligned college prep course teaches theater and basic experience in performance. Students study theatrical history, receive performing techniques, develop vocal projections and physical expression, and learn about the production crew.

Theater II
The VAPA aligned college prep course includes advanced interpretation, criticism, and play production technical aspects. It focuses on Acting,Theatre Literature and History, Playmaking and Writing, and Technical Theatre.

Theatre III
This VAPA aligned college prep course is designed for advanced theater students. Students will work in readers' and children's theater, do scene work from different styles and time periods and will view and critique a live, community theater performance.

Theater IV
Students should have completed Theater 1,II and Theater III or audition for this college prep course. This class provides advanced training in acting, introduces concepts in directing, and provides practical experiences through performance projects.

Stage Producation
This course is a practical application of play production from concept to actualization on the stage. Students will focus on one or more of the following production aspects of the theatre: set design and construction, makeup, properties management, stage management, technical theatre including lights and sound, costume design, and performance.

Musical Theatre
The course provides theatre/ vocal students a well-rounded performing arts education. It includes basic vocal and production techniques and musical theatre history. Attendance mandatory at extra rehearsals and all performances. Can be repeated for credit.

Music
String Orchestra I
This class gives beginning violin, viola, cello, and bass players a well-rounded music education. It includes basic string pedagogy, a knowledge of music history and string orchestra repertoire. Attendance required at rehearsals and all performances.

String Orchestra II
The class gives intermediate and advanced string players advanced technical string pedagogy, knowledge of music history and performance of superior string orchestra repertoire. Attendance required at rehearsals and all performances.

Brass
This is a sectional rehearsal class that allows for specific instruction of brass instruments such as the: trumpet, French horn, baritone, trombone and tuba which are part of the wind ensemble. Daily practice is required for success; private study is highly recommended at the teacher's discretion as supplement for this course. Jury examination may be required to receive a grade for this section. Students enrolled in the appropriate wind ensemble class; concert band, chamber quartet, or jazz orchestra is eligible for this class.

Woodwind
This is a sectional rehearsal class that allows for specific instruction of woodwind instruments such as flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, and saxophone. Class time is utilized for highly specific instrumental techniques and instruction, as well as sectional rehearsal of wind ensemble literature. Daily practice is required for success; private study is highly recommended at the teacher's discretion as supplement for this course. Jury examination may be required to receive a grade for this section. Students enrolled in the appropriate wind ensemble class; concert band, chamber quartet, or jazz orchestra are eligible for this class.

Wind Ensemble
This college prep course is for more advanced instrumental musicians. Students learn the theory and history of the music, and perform intermediate to advanced level literature from various styles and cultures. Class can be taken for repeat credit.

Jazz Band
Jazz Band performs for concerts and civic and school programs. The class studies and performs many types of music from swing to rock and jazz. Attendance at performances is required.
Marching Band
Through standards based instruction, the goals of Marching Band include proficiency in musical concepts and ideas and an understanding of musical aesthetics by performing varied styles of music and repertoire. The students will be able to perform and analyze music through various competitions. Can be taken for PE credit for 10th grade and above as long as 9th grade PE has been taken.

Concert Choir
Students learn to use a three to six- part choral music and focus on choral techniques, music theory, listening exercises and exams, note and pitch relationship, and pitch memory, using solfage. Attendance mandatory at extra rehearsals and performances.

Madrigals
This college prep class performs intermediate to advanced forms of choral literature from various eras of music theory. Focus is on the theory, history and culture of the music performed. Attendance mandatory.

Dance
This elective offers students theory, laboratory and competition experiences in the art forms of ballet, modern, tap, musical theater, and jazz dance. Five (5) units of P.E. credit may be earned in this course or Pageantry Production, not both.
