STEM careers are the future! MESA is an elective course and an academic team that integrates mathematics, engineering, and science. You will complete cool projects and also compete in and out of district!
This elective course is offered as an interdisciplinary subject with a focus on Mathematics and Science. Students will use problem and project based learning models to study Engineering, Physics, and Mathematical concepts. Students compete throughout the year at county competitions. This course can be taken for repeat credit.

MESA Drafting and Design
In this year-long college-preparatory elective course, students will explore the fundamentals of drafting and design. Each unit introduces students to the real-world application of the skills and principles and highlights how they relate to possible careers in STEM fields. All units utilize the engineering design process and require students to keep an "Engineering Design Notebook" to document their thought processes and test data as well provide insight into the design, test and redesign process.

MESA Senior Seminar
The course is offered as an interdisciplinary subject with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Students will create their own advanced project which they will have to develop, design, build, and present. The project will develop an engineering-based solution to a problem in society. Student will also investigate vocational opportunities in the field of engineering and explore potential colleges, including applying, researching financial aid, and registering for entrance and placement exams.

Foundations of Leadership
In this course, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of leadership. The course will review motivation, leadership theory, personal assessment, followership, values and ethics, group dynamics, and team building. Students will learn the basics of government structure and leadership within a government model. This course can be taken for repeat credit.

Renaissance Leadership
Renaissance Leadership (Grades 9-12) is a class that aims to promote a positive school environment by developing leadership, peer mentoring, and self-care skills in students. Through this class, students will learn fundamental leadership skills such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, while also being taught the importance of self-care. This approach will help students to better understand how to look after themselves, and in turn, help others to do the same. By working together inclusively, students can create a school culture that celebrates diversity and promotes a positive environment for all.

Ethnic and Social Justice Studies
This course examines how issues of race, class, gender and sexuality are constructed and how they shape life globally, within the United States and in our local community. Employing historical, intersectional, thematic and interdisciplinary approaches, this course introduces key analytical concepts to understand and deconstruct the development of power and inequality in the United States. Students will examine vital civil rights and social justice movements and the various strategies that were implemented to navigate social reform. Furthermore, students will develop a social consciousness approach to 21st century critical reading, writing, listening and speaking by drawing from their diverse histories and experiences needed for academic success along with personal and community transformation. This course will culminate with a student-driven community action project.

Academic Decathlon
The Academic Decathlon is a ten event scholastic competition for teams of high school students. The team competition events that team members complete in are: Art, Economics, Essay, Interview, Language and Literature, Math , Music, Science, Social Studies, Speech with a final Super Quiz event. Each high school enters a team of nine students: 3 "A"or honor students (3.750-4.00 GPA), 3 "B" or scholastic student (3.00-3.749 GPA), and 3 "C" or below Varsity students (0.00-2.999 GPA). The course will focus on the rigor through dept and complexity of the content area, interdisciplinary studies and presentation skills.

Journalism
In this course, students will learn journalistic writing styles, techniques and best practices, including AP Style and journalistic ethics (with an emphasis on student press law). Students will participate in extensive reading of current literature and engage in continual critical thinking and analysis of published writing samples. Students will practice creative and expository writing techniques in order to improve overall writing skills. The course will also feature other aspects of student journalism and newspaper production, including but not limited to, editing, photography and design. This course can be taken for repeat credit

his elective course will focus on the techniques and strategies of successful blogging Students will understand how blogs are revolutionizing the media, powering politics, and shaping culture, and how they are changing the way journalists write Building on journalism and public relations concepts acquired in Journalism I, students will create a forum for strategic communication. They will learn the basics of successful blogging, design a basic blog template, identify a niche, define an audience, write online content, and utilize common blogging methods. Blog stories will be due twice a week and will be published to the student's blog on Edublog and in the print edition of the school's newspaper, the Medieval Times.

This course will expose students to relevant social issues and aims to sharpen students' critical awareness of how gender operates in institutions, culture, and their own lives. The course will cover topics ranging from, but not limited to, politics, activism, reproductive rights, sexual harassment, military, media and body image, workforce, education, and athletics.

Students enrolled in this course will be expected to work in one of the offices doing filing and general clerical duties.

This course introduces students to competitive eSports and to the video games industry to provide students an opportunity to explore a possible future in the eSports industry. Students will learn about the history of eSports, its impact on the culture and the economy, and career opportunities that are available in the industry which include game design and programming, marketing, casting, streaming, and event management. Students will also participate in scholastic eSports competitions to develop positive interactions and effective communication and collaboration.
