Read or view before class: George Brandt's short play, "Grounded" (below)
Prepare or organize before class:
Consider and come ready to discuss some of the following questions.
What role do shifting colors play - Blue, Pink, Grey, White, Blue, Black, Grey - in conveying what happens to The Pilot?
How does The Pilot's psychological distance from her targets when flying Tiger and her family/civilian life while on deployment change once she operates The Reaper and drives across the desert to her family every night?
What sensorial dimensions of her life drive The Pilot's personal identity back when she was flying F16's for the Air Force? What happens to those sensorial dimensions, and hence her personal identity, when she stops flying and becomes a member of the Chair Force operating UAV's?
Deserts, sand, and death play literal and symbolic roles throughout the play - where do you see those elements operating and how do they illustrate what happens to The Pilot?
