Prepare/organize for tonight's class:

• As you view the video on Dix, think about your own experience - as a soldier and as a veteran - and how you might convey this in a painting or drawing. Do Dix’s images resonate with your own experience? How so? Or, how not?

• The Kollwitz video is about process and technique, showing us how the artist expressed emotion through line, shape and shadow. Here, consider the formal aspects of drawing as a tool for working through our life experiences.
