Our graduation will take place Thursday May 25th, 6pm to 8pm, on Zoom. We invite all scholars in this year's PCVI to give a short speech or testimonial (3 to 6 minutes) -- regardless of whether you've just joined us in January, or you started last year. It's a great way to sum up your experience, and to share it not only with your classmates and people who know you, but also with vets who might consider taking the course next year.
There are two ways to approach your speech.
Plan A: treat it like a letter to a veteran (or to yourself, prior to doing PCVI), on why they should consider participating in the PCVI. What will they get out of it? What did you get out of it? Were there particular readings, works of art, films, discussions, guest speakers, or field trips that you found meaningful, and that other vets might as well?
Plan B: tell us about something that you learned in the course, that has helped you make better sense of some aspect of your own experience (while in the military, and/or after). Try to mention specific readings, works of art, films, discussions, guest speakers, or field trips -- that helps your audience get a better sense of what you did and why/how it was valuable.
Prepare or organize before class:
• Make a list of particular themes, discussions, readings, works of art, films, guest speakers or field trips that you have found meaningful, revealing, mind-capturing, disturbing, enlightening, inspiring. You might go back through the prompts from the writing respites from fall and spring, as a reminder of things we covered.
• Try to categorize your list into major themes from the course -- in other words, do you see some common themes or questions coming up?
