Ryan McAlpine is an avid runner, traveler, and theater technician living in Philadelphia, PA.
He has been working for the performer flying company 'Flying by Foy' for the last 8 years as a Rigger and Flying Director. As a member of the Foy team he has worked in schools, churches and regional theaters. He has worked as a Flying Director on touring and Broadway shows such as The Lion King, Billy Elliot, Honeymoon in Vegas, Cats, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. He has also worked as a Flying Director on international productions such as: Billy Elliot in Seoul, Korea and Tokyo, Japan; Wicked in Sapporo, Japan; and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Melbourne, Australia.
Previous to his current job, he toured with Broadway National Tours in the United States and Canada as a Theatre Technician. He worked on such productions as Billy Elliot, The Producers, Les Miserables, Rent: The Broadway Tour, Wizard of Oz, and Beauty and the Beast.
Ryan is an IATSE union member and an ETCP certified Theatre Rigger. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatrical Production from Ithaca College ('07), though skipped his graduation day in order to begin working in the industry. Ryan became interested in theater during a middle school production of The Wizard of Oz, and his invovement picked up steam as a Crew Chief and Stage Manager during his Spotlight Theatre years at Rush-Henrietta ('99-03).
