The World Language Department offers two modern languages: French and Spanish, and one classical language: Latin. Knowledge and understanding of a world language promotes an appreciation of people and their cultures. In-depth study of a world language equips students with the tools necessary to communicate and problem solve effectively in life and in a global society.  The modern languages stress proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and help students gain an appreciation of different cultures.  In Latin the emphasis is on vocabulary acquisition, grammar, translation, literary analysis, and  appreciating classical literature and culture. It is recommended that students study at least three years of the same language. However, the opportunity is also available for students to explore a second or third language.
