This course is conducted in Spanish and is designed for those students with a serious interest in the Spanish language, literature and culture. A high degree of reading and speaking fluency is desirable. The course will provide a thorough review of grammar and methodical practice in composition leading to command of practical idioms and vocabulary. Furthermore, there will be in-depth development of speaking skills through cultural readings, group discussions and oral presentations. Selected topics will include units on family, current issues and events, the Spanish Civil War, and technology. Students will also read and analyze The House of Bernarda Alba by Garcia Lorca and selected short stories from various Spanish-speaking countries. The class is conducted in Spanish, and videos and movies accompany the course.
Students must take this course for the whole year in order to receive credit. Students in Spanish IV who receive at least a C and have registered with the ECE program will receive 6 credits from UCONN for UCONN 3178/3179. Students will be prepared to take the Spanish AP language and culture exam in the spring.
