Introduction to PMU
Permanent makeup, also known as permanent cosmetics, derma-pigmentation, micro-pigmentation, semi-permanent makeup and cosmetic tattooing, is a technique which uses tattoos (permanent pigmentation of the dermis) as a means of producing designs that resemble makeup.
The reasons that people may want permanent makeup vary, whether it is to help with a personal insecurity, cover an unwanted scar, or simply not have the need to apply make up on a daily basis, we can help.
Here at Revontattoo, our artist Freya does a few permanent make up procedures including, freckle tattoos, ombre brows, lip blush and scar camouflage.
With 7 years of experience of working in a tattoo studio; an aseptic environment, getting to know the best techniques for every skin type, training on bloodborne pathogens and cross contamination, as well as passing the mandatory health and safety inspection for tattoo studios in Finland with all top marks. Beauticians often do not have this kind of experience, and often lack the knowledge of potentially life threatening blood borne pathogens. We believe that our studio is one of the safest possible places to get your permanent make up.
Permanent make up tattoos are slightly different to normal tattoos, they are applied with a lighter hand and designed to fade over time. Most procedures will require a top up around 6-10 weeks later. For most procedures, we include this top up in the price. If you wish to retain the colour for longer, it is advised to go for 6 month - yearly top-ups.This does not mean that the pigment will completely leave the skin, any tattooing is a permanent procedure, and despite the pigment fading over time, some pigment is often retained. This being said, unlike usual tattoo inks, PMU inks are formulated with smaller pigment molecules that are more likely to fade over time, not go blue or fuzzy like normal tattoos can.
ConsultationsAll first time PMU customers require a consultation, here we will make sure that this is what you really want, go through the risks, fill in the medical forms, go through the colour choices, and do an allergy test. Consultations will happen 7 days minimum before the procedure. The consultations will be conducted in English, however there is always someone here to translate to Finnish if needed. These consultations are more in depth than tattoo consultations so come at a 50€ fee, but this will be used as your booking fee and will come off of the final price of your appointment.
Correction and removalWe also carry out correction procedures. Sometimes the colour may not come out how you expected it to, maybe after a while your hair colour will change and you wish to update your brows to fit that. Perhaps you’ve been to an inexperienced practitioner who used a pigment that does not go with your skin tone. We can help you achieve what you originally desired.
Removal is also a service that we provide. This only really works if the correct type of inks (PMU, Micro-Pigment inks) were used in the first place. Removal takes time, in some cases it can take a few sessions, in some cases it can take over 10, it depends on the pigment shade and stubbornness. Unlike laser tattoo removal, PMU removal uses saline solution that is applied in a similar way to how the tattoo was applied. The needles and saline solution breaks down the pigment particles under the skin and the body naturally rejects them through scabbing. This technique can also be used to lighten a pigment that is too dark. Unlike laser tattoo removal, PMU removal using saline is less painful, will not affect hair growth in the area and does not remove the skin's natural pigment (melanin).
NumbingLegally, we cannot provide you any numbing cream containing the most common active numbing ingredient, lidocaine. Lidocaine can be harmful to you, it can cause bad reactions in some people, it can also lead to permanent nerve damage. This being said, if you would like to have a less painful procedure, you can buy emla cream from the pharmacy. It costs less than 15€ per tube and will be enough for at least one procedure. If you are planning on using emla, please let me know before the consultation, bring it to the consultation so I can apply it with the other products that we will check for allergies. If you have not carried out an allergy test for emla at least 7 days before your appointment, I will not be able to use it during your appointment.
Emla is a primary numbing cream, meaning that it is applied before the procedure.
We do have a numbing butter by biotat that we use as a secondary numbing cream meaning that it is applied after the skin has been broken. This is a completely natural numbing product that uses cloves instead of any chemical numbing agents. Although it is not as effective, it carries a much lower risk of allergic reactions.
