We may cover any of the following units in Third Grade:
Weather and Climate
We will examine what makes the weather, and how temperature, wind, rain and snow are measured. We will explore how weather is predicted and how weather and climate are related. We will also learn how extreme weather affects people and what people can do to reduce extreme weather damage.
Environments and Living Things
We will examine where organisms live and how some animals live in groups to help them survive. We will discuss how environments change and what happens to these organisms in their changing environments. We will also learn how people discover extinct environments and what fossils might show us about environments of long ago.
Life Cycles and Traits
We will examine why offspring look similar to their parents. We will learn about how traits are affected by both inheritance and the environment. We will discover why some species survive and others do not. We will then learn about the life cycles of plants and animals with backbones and without backbones.
Forces and Motion
We will learn about what forces do and the difference between balanced and unbalanced forces. We will try to predict patterns of motion and what magnetic and electric forces do.
