The Redden Court PE department endeavours to deliver an in depth GCSE PE and Dance Curriculum that allows pupils to learn and progress in a number of different ways. While the main focus of GCSE PE and Dance surrounds the theoretical side of the curriculum, exposing pupils to new areas they have yet to experience through KS3, we ensure that the highest level of performance is obtained by every single one of our pupils in both PE and Dance.
In previous years we have had an excellent uptake in GCSE PE as one of their options and we expect the same, if not higher in years to come. This is purely down to the extensive KS3 curriculum our pupils have experienced throughout their Redden Court School journey so far. We ensure pupils have an understanding of what it takes to be an excellent GCSE PE student by drip feeding terminology, examples and scenarios into all KS3 year groups. Furthermore, we ensure that our Year 9 pupils undertake a block of GCSE theory taster sessions during their curriculum journey to expose them to the difficulty and topics they will meet in Year 10 and 11.
GCSE Dance is a new area we have branched into with our curriculum in 2021. The PE department at Redden Court School view GCSE Dance as an essential asset to our curriculum for many pupils who will strive and succeed in dance and obtain a great GCSE because of this. We have had a great intake within out first year of running this GCSE and are excited to see even more pupils eager to take GCSE Dance in the coming years. Similarly to GCSE PE, GCSE Dance has a huge emphasis on both theory and practical broadening the knowledge of our dance pupils further than just performance. GCSE Dance students will look into styles of dance, choreography, music and key fundamentals. Dance is embedded into our girls KS3 Curriculum journey and allows for prior learning to give pupils an idea of what GCSE Dance involves.
We have had a great success rate as a department with the quality of teaching and learning over the years and are very proud to say we achieve on average per year group 91.8% grades 9-4 .
