You will have no doubt taken part in a variety of sporting activities already and and you may represent Redden Court School and/or play for a team outside of school in your sports. This is your chance to use your skills and enthusiasm for your sport for your GCSE examination, but look at the criteria first, take your teacher's advice and choose wisely so that you can achieve as many marks as possible towards your final grade.
The practical part of the course is designed to test your skill in a range of practical performances. It will provide 30% of your final grade; 10% from each of the 3 activities.
You need to choose three activities in total and you will need to perform three different physical activities, in the role of player/performer. You can choose either:
Two team activities and one individual activity
Two individual activities and one team activity
The assessment of your three practical activities can take place at any time during your course. Usually this will be at the end of a block of work on the activity, but it may be towards the end of your two year course.
For each of your three activities, teaching and assessment will be carried out over a number of sessions, totalling around 12 hours. These sessions will usually be a series of practices in the skills of the activity, including small-sided games and the full game for team sports and individual sports, although this will vary according to the activity. During the assessment you will be set tasks by your teacher, who will be aiming to allow you to perform to the best of your ability.
