Inspiring Minds, Hearts and Spirits
MR STEPHEN DWYER | Term 4, Week 6
Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of our College community,
The term is progressing well, with students engaged in a wide range of meaningful learning experiences across the College. As we enter Week 7, the Year 7–10 exams begin. This is an important time for our students to focus, revise, and prepare well. These exams are an opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning, reflect on their progress, and strengthen the skills that support them as Active and Empowered learners. We encourage all students to approach the week ahead with commitment, balance, and confidence, knowing that steady preparation leads to their best outcomes.
At the start of November in our Church calendar, we celebrated two significant feasts, All Saints’ Day (1 November) and All Souls’ Day (2 November). These days invite us to pause, remember, and give thanks. On All Saints’ Day, we honour all those who have lived lives of holiness, not only the canonised saints we know by name, but the countless ordinary people who, through faith, compassion, and love, revealed God’s presence in the world. On All Souls’ Day, we pray for those who have gone before us, our family, friends, and members of our community, entrusting them to God’s eternal care.
As we remember the saints and souls in this month of November, may we draw inspiration from their example. Let us recognise the “everyday saints” among us, our colleagues who show patience and kindness, our students who act with generosity, and all who reflect God’s love in small but powerful ways. In our teaching and in our presence, may we continue to make Jesus known and loved, walking gently in the Marist way.
Last week I had the privilege of attending the Marist Student Leaders Gathering in Mittagong for the celebratory Mass and dinner with our student leaders and principals from across NSW and the ACT. Our College Captains, Gabriella Pereira and Max Reid, along with our Boarding Captains, Lucy Irvine and Ned Brown, represented Red Bend with pride alongside student leaders from Marist schools across the region.
The gathering provided a valuable opportunity for our young leaders to connect with others, share their experiences, and reflect deeply on their roles as leaders for 2026. Through the various sessions, the students explored what it means to lead in the Marist way, with presence, humility, family spirit, and a genuine commitment to serving their community. It was inspiring to witness their passion, maturity and enthusiasm as they prepare to guide our College in the year ahead.
A special thank you to Mrs Amanda Maitland for accompanying and supporting our students throughout the gathering.
May St Marcellin Champagnat and Mary our Good Mother continue to watch over our community.
We have had another busy period over the last 3 weeks with plenty of activities occurring in sports, arts and academics. I am aware my last newsletter had lots of information so today, I am resharing and added some information about the upcoming social media ban. As we approach the end of the year, we have more exciting and important activities for our students, including the commencement of our exams for Years 7-10 starting Monday. An invitation will be sent in the coming weeks for our final day Thanksgiving Mass and Prize Giving Assembly. We look forward to our students and families coming to celebrate what has been a fantastic 2025. A reminder about the other events happening as we end the term:
Junior Dinner Dance - Friday 5 December
Year 9 Peer Support - 10-11 December
House Carnival - 12 December
Thanksgiving Mass and Prize Giving Assembly - 16 December
Thank you again to our families for their support, I look forward to celebrating the success of our students and finishing well as we aim at something more and continue to Inspire Minds, Hearts and Spirits.
Preparing for the Social Media Ban – December 10
As the new Social Media Ban for under-16s comes into effect on December 10, the Council of Catholic School Parents NSW/ACT has prepared a valuable resource to support families during this transition.
We are pleased to share a 30-minute video featuring Dr Michael Carr-Gregg, one of Australia’s leading psychologists, author, and broadcaster. In this video, Dr Carr-Gregg explains:
What social media is and how it impacts young people
How the new age restrictions will work
Why these changes are happening
What the ban means for families and schools
This video offers practical tips and insights to help parents, carers, and educators guide children through these changes confidently.
We encourage all parents and carers to watch this video and become informed and equipped for the upcoming changes.
PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO: 'The Social Media Delay: What It Means for Parents and Schools'
Another webinar you can also attend through GenerationNext: Preparing young people for social media age restrictions
Replay sessions: Wednesday 26 & Thursday 27 November (registration essential)
In this webcast, internet safety expert Brett Lee will provide an overview of the social media age restriction changes coming into effect next month, explore how these changes are likely to affect young people, and outline steps those who support them can take to assist them and their families to prepare, and offer practical strategies and tips for navigating the transition and beyond.

What this means for students
If your child is under 16, they may need to close existing accounts or refrain from creating new ones on platforms covered by the law. eSafety Commissioner+1
The intention is to support student wellbeing by helping reduce risks associated with social media use, such as excessive screen time, peer pressure and exposure to harmful content. eSafety Commissioner+1
Although the regulation comes from outside the school, our College will also review our policies to ensure consistency and support for students during this change
We will educate our students in understanding the changes and what it means for them.
What you can do as parents/carers
Check in with your child about which apps they use, how often and why.
Consider setting clear family agreements about screen time, appropriate use of social media and offline alternatives.
Use this transition as an opportunity to teach and support safe digital habits, respectful online behaviour and balance between online and offline life.
Record of Achievement (RoSA)
The Year 11 and 10 students' grades for their RoSA have been provided to the NSW Educational Standards Authority (NESA). The RoSA is a cumulative credential, meaning it contains a student's record of academic achievement up until the date they leave school.
Students who leave school prior to the HSC are eligible for the RoSA. That is they are aged 17
and or
in approved education or training OR
in full-time, paid employment (average 25 hours/week) OR
in a combination of these three
For Year 10 students the RoSA reports on stage 5 grades achieved in both mandatory and elective courses. Whereas for Year 11 students the RoSA reports stage 5 and Year 11 grades.
Congratulations to our Year 10 and Year 11 students for reaching this milestone in their secondary education.
Year 11 and Year 10 can access their eRecord from their Students Online NESA account.
Year 11 results release- 18 November 2025
Year 10 results release- 4 December 2025
Exam week is here!
For all students in Years 7 - 10, Semester 2 exams start next week.
Please find the links below to the exam timetables for each year group;
All students are expected to attend every exam. There are no catch-up exams. If students are away, they must have a justified reason, otherwise they will receive zero for that exam.
If students are away due to illness, we ask that parents make contact with the school through the SSO that morning and provide a medical certificate.
Being prepared
Students should come prepared for each exam with a couple of black pens, a pencil, rubber, ruler and calculator. These should all be in a clear plastic sleeve.
Students should be using the exam notifications to support their study/revision for each exam. These can be found in each Google Classroom as well as the Share Drive for each year group.
PAT Testing
On Monday and Tuesday of Week 8, students in Years 7 - 10 will again sit the PAT tests in both reading and numeracy. This will provide vital information on the growth of students over this year and provide clear data for when starting 2026. Again, attendance is important at these tests.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Deborah Wheeldon on 6852 2000 or by email at dlt@redbendcc.nsw.edu.au
There has been plenty happening in Boarding over the past few weeks as we move towards the end of a busy term. The renovations in the Girls’ Residence are progressing well, with the next stage of the building project now underway.
A huge thank you goes to all the Junior and Senior Girls who assisted with moving dorms to allow the works to continue. Cooperation, positive attitude, and teamwork made the process smooth and efficient. Special mention to Peter, Paula and the Maintenance team that have worked over and above to reconfigure the dormitories for the Junior and Senior Girls.
During the week, the focus has been on exam preparation for next week. Well done to all students that have been meeting expectations in study. All the best next week as they tackle exams.
Well done to Boarders who continue to be nominated for prizes doing positive things in the Boarding school. Canteen vouchers are regularly given out to recognise those who help build up our community. This week we congratulate Cooper, Noah and Bridie.
Weekends activities have included wellness walks, fishing, additional study periods and a trip to Dubbo. We look forward to a shopping trip to Canberra on the 6th December. The Boarders celebrate Mass together in the College Chapel this weekend and we thank Father Harry for all his efforts. All RBCC families are welcome to join us at 5pm on Sunday.
A reminder that with the end of term approaching it might be good for weekly Boarders to start “thinning out” their stuff. It is always a big job packing up for the end of the year, so it is suggested that Boardrs be pro-active and make it easier on themselves (and Mums and Dads) at the end of term.
Also a reminder that there is no transport at the end of term on the last day. All parents are expected to collect their sons and daughters on Tuesday 16th December after the Thanksgiving Mass and Prize Giving.
RBCC uniforms just making Parents aware that there is a Facebook page called RBCC Marketplace if you join the group, you can sell and purchase uniforms. This might be handy for Boarding families.
Life Education Australia
On Friday of week 6 all students from year 7 - 11 participated in an engaging and thought provoking workshop on vaping delivered by Life Education Australia and yes, Healthy Harold made an appearance. Students perceptions on vaping were challenged and they were presented with current research and facts on vaping.
Student Wellbeing
With 7 - 10 exams and our 2026 HSC cohort receiving their first HSC tasks you may notice or have concerns for your child and their wellbeing. Be it stress, anxiety or concerns about peer issues please reach out to your child’s house coordinator to discuss your concerns and how we can work together and to best support your child.
Uniform
As the weather starts to warm up a reminder that our sports uniform is to be worn on Thursdays and when required for excursions. Our formal summer uniform is to be worn on all other days. Students are required to have a note with an explained reason from the parent/caregiver if they are wearing the incorrect uniform and report to the House Coordinators on arrival at school to receive a uniform slip.
A reminder for the general appearance of our students as outlined on page 17 of the student handbook. This includes no visible make up or facial piercings. Students may wear a single, simple neck chain, wristwatch, bangle/bracelet, ring and single set of sleepers or studs. Students will be asked to remove excessive makeup and excess jewellery.
We look forward to a strong finish to the year with a number of events on the calendar upcoming including the Junior Dinner Dance for years 9 and 10. A link has been sent to parents for this via Consent2GO. House Carnival and Music Day along with Peer Support training for our year 9 students.
Please reach out to your child’s House Coordinator if you have any questions or queries.
Sunday Mass at Red Bend
Last Term, we re-introduced parish Sunday Masses into our College Chapel. The next Sunday Mass at Red Bend will be this Sunday, 23 November, at 5:00 pm. This Sunday is the Solemnity of Christ the King - the last Sunday of the Church's year! A small group of Red Bend musicians and singers will join the boarders and some parishioners from town for this celebration.
All Red Bend families are warmly invited to join us for this occasion.
Australian Catholic Youth Festival
Bishop Columba and Fr Harry came out to Red Bend on the afternoon of Friday 14 November to begin a program of formation for our Australian Catholic Youth Festival pilgrimage.
Nineteen Red Bend students and staff will travel to Melbourne with the Bishop and Fr Harry and a small handful of young adults from across Wilcannia Forbes Diocese.
Pictured below is some of the group that departs next Saturday morning.
Vinnies Christmas Hampers
Each year, the Red Bend community makes a substantial donation of goods to the local St Vincent de Paul conference. These are then distributed to people in need just before Christmas. These donations make a tremendous difference in the lives of local people who find things especially tough at holiday time.
Each of our 8 Houses has been given a list of suggested items to donate. Students can leave the donated item with their PC teacher or at the front office. Monetary donations can also be made at the front office (Suggested donation is $10.00). These funds will also be provided to the St Vincent de Paul conference for local distribution.
Hamper donations began arriving last week, but we will need a big effort to gather the amount of goods seen in previous years (see the photo below of the Hampers gathered at the front of the MPH at the 2023 Thanksgiving Mass)!
Items needed for Christmas Hampers!
Please find attached the House Lists for grocery items and goods which are needed for our 2025 Vinnies Christmas Appeal. We encourage everyone to bring in the items for the hampers requested by Vinnies. With the rise in the cost of living, these contributions are needed now more than ever to help provide a simple Christmas meal for families in our local communities of Forbes and Parkes. Your generosity can make a significant difference. These items are due by Friday of Week 8 and should be delivered to the old House Coordinators Office. Alternatively, there is also the option to contribute by purchasing a $10 Vinnies Christmas Hamper – please see Jenny in the front office for details.

Year 11 iRise Leadership Day
On Friday, 14 November, Mr David Riddington and I had the pleasure of taking some of our Year 11 student leaders to iRISE, a great day of formation designed to guide them as they step into their new roles gently. This experience was less about rules and more about nurturing their personal journey of faith and leadership.
iRISE extended an invitation to our students to be truly authentic leaders. The focus was on encouraging them to look inward and reflect on the unique gifts and kindnesses they already possess. Drawing inspiration from Jesus’ model of loving service, they were gently prompted to consider how their values can shine through in their leadership.
This formation day served as an excellent reminder that true influence flows from the heart. Whether they are leading in the classroom, supporting a friend, or navigating the digital world, the challenge is simple: to be consistently themselves—faith-filled, compassionate, and true to the Red Bend spirit. We hope this experience helps them begin their leadership year with grace and quiet confidence.
Mrs Therese Glasheen - Religious Education Coordinator
Year 7 Orientation Day
The Orientation Day for our incoming 2026 students was a wonderful experience for everyone involved. Mrs Scott, our House Coordinators, and our College Leaders warmly welcomed the students as they arrived, helping them feel right at home.
Students spent the day in their house groups, rotating through eight hands-on sessions, including woodwork, PDHPE, music, food technology, an educational scavenger hunt, library games, Science and even a visit to our farm. This variety gave them a genuine taste of the exciting learning opportunities and impressive facilities available at Red Bend.
We were incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and positive attitude shown by the whole group—they approached every activity with curiosity and confidence. Our kitchen staff added to the occasion by preparing a delicious morning tea and a BBQ lunch for everyone.
The day wrapped up with an energetic performance from the Red Bend Drumline Corps, a warm address from Mr Dwyer and a highlights video showcasing the students’ adventures.
We are already looking forward to welcoming this wonderful group of young people to Red Bend Catholic College in 2026. They have made an excellent start to their journey.
Culture Connection Day at the Dreaming Centre
Red Bend Aboriginal students attended the Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Culture Connect Day at The Dreaming Centre on 5 November 2025.
The Idea was put forward by Red Bend student Mykel Coe, President of our JAECG and brought to life by our amazing AECG.
Our students were split into two groups, Group A and Group B, each led by inspiring cultural leaders.
Group A had the privilege of learning from Aunty Beth Wright and Uncle John Lane, who shared their deep cultural knowledge about totems and the Dinawan (Emu) in the sky. They explained how everything in the world and universe is connected. A highlight of the session was the display of a rare Emu egg, which, when found, showed the Sun, Moon, and Dinawan/Emu in the sky on its surface — one of the rarest eggs known to this day.
Group B spent their first session with Tyrone Robison, who spoke passionately about the importance of believing in yourself. Tyrone also led the students through three powerful traditional dances:
The Cleansing Dance –This song was gifted by Jordan Boney to Tyrone- the song is sung to clear away bad spirits and let our old people know we are on Country.
The Dinawan Dance – showing how the male Emu raises the chicks and pay respect to the Dinawan in the.
The Magpie Dance –This song was gifted by Jorden Boney- to Tyrone- the song representing the spirit and movements of the Magpie.
The day was filled with connection, learning, and pride in culture.
A big thank you to Our amazing AECG team for organising such an amazing Two days. To our amazing staff — Gillian McMillan, Josh Piggott, and Barry Merritt — for organising this opportunity for our students to reconnect with their culture. The day was a big step forward in reconnecting our youth to their culture.
Remembrance Day
Thank you to our students who represented the College at Remembrance Day events in both Forbes and Parkes.
We also held an assembly at the College where, as a whole school community, we paused to remember those who have lost their lives serving our country.
Year 9 iSTEM - Robot Revolution in Action
This term, our Year 9 iSTEM students have been immersed in the Robot Revolution, a hands-on project that blends creativity, engineering, and problem‑solving. Students have designed, built, and programmed robots to tackle a series of challenges, from navigating obstacle courses to performing precision tasks.
The project has encouraged students to apply the engineering design process, test prototypes, and refine their ideas through critical thinking. Along the way, they’ve explored real‑world applications of robotics in industries such as manufacturing and agriculture. The Robot Revolution has not only strengthened STEM skills but also highlighted the importance of teamwork, resilience, and creativity.
We look forward to seeing how these budding engineers continue to push the boundaries of technology in future projects. Check out some of their amazing robots below.
Excursion to the Blacktown Exercise and Sport Technology (BEST) Centre
A huge couple of days for 7 of our year 10 students who travelled to Blacktown Exercise and Sport Technology (BEST) centre. Here they immersed themselves in an experience hosted by Australian Catholic University, which had them completing activities from the world of exercise and sports science.
A highlight was catching up with ex-student Billy Phillips, who arrived with his Penrith Panthers team mates to use the BEST facilities as elite athletes, reaffirming what our students had learnt.
Year 9 and 10 Agriculture Tours
Our Year 9 and 10 students recently had the opportunity to take part in the local Forbes Agriculture Tour Days, gaining valuable insights into the wide range of agricultural industries and career opportunities within our region.
Throughout the tour, students visited a number of farm-related businesses, each offering a unique perspective on modern agriculture and the technology driving it forward.
These tours were a fantastic learning experience for all involved, offering students a real-world look at the diverse and innovative opportunities available in agriculture today. By seeing first hand how local businesses operate, students have gained a greater appreciation for the industry and a clearer understanding of the potential career pathways in our own community.
We would like to sincerely thank all the local participating businesses for their time, expertise, and effort in providing such valuable learning experiences for our students. Your support helps inspire the next generation of agricultural professionals.
Culture Class
At Red Bend, we believe that teaching culture every week helps our youth grow strong within themselves. Every Culture Class begins with learning and reciting the Red Bend Acknowledgement to Country, grounding our students in respect and connection to the Wiradjuri language.
The class then moves onto Country. Our students were fortunate to receive knowledge from Barry Merritt, our Aboriginal Education Coordinator. This week, Mr Merritt guided our students in the art of boomerang throwing, sharing traditional techniques and the cultural significance behind them.
Tyrone Robinson gave valuable knowledge on traditional spear throwing using the woomera, an important tool in Aboriginal culture, along with teaching the traditional knowledge of fire making, a skill passed down through generations.
Our Culture Class continues to strengthen identity, respect, and understanding within our Red Bend community.
