Students in EDAS 1181 and EDAS 1114 must submit the following documents for placement in the 2025-26 academic year:
All students must submit a signed FOIP Consent to Release Form (typed names are not accepted) and submit it via the Education Field Experience and Professional Practicum Document Collection Form. Only FOIP forms submitted through our online form will be processed (submissions by email, mail, or in-person will not be accepted). Note: You do not need to submit your FOIP Form and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) at the same time. Please carefully read step three below for information about applying for and submitting your VSC.
All students must submit the Practicum Request Form by the deadline indicated in their Practicum Checklist. Practicum Checklists (and Practicum Request Forms) are emailed to registered students' RDP email accounts on the registration deadline for the term.
If you are currently employed as an Educational Assistant and you will be requesting a Working placement, it is your responsibility to speak with your school administration and/or HR department about the Criminal Record or Vulnerable Sector Check requirements for your placement. You are not required to submit your check to our office for placement.
If you are not currently employed as an Educational Assistant, you will be provided with a Non-Working placement for your practicum. As a Non-Working student, our school division partners require that we verify that you have a negative/clear Vulnerable Sector Check (this should include a Criminal Record Check).
At the beginning of July, submit your application for a new Vulnerable Sector Check for the new academic year to your local RCMP or Police Station (see "How to apply for a Vulnerable Sector Check" below for more information about this. Keep a copy of your receipt or proof of application (e.g picture of your application) in a safe location.
Processing times for Vulnerable Sector Checks vary depending on the time of year and individual circumstances. It can take detachments up to 8 weeks to process some applications. To ensure that your application has adequate processing time, we ask that if you do not have the results of your Vulnerable Sector Check by JULY 25, 2025, submit a copy of your receipt or proof of application to our office using the (online) Education Field Experience and Professional Practicum Document Collection Form. Your proof of application will temporarily save your seat in practicum as you await the results of your check. If your application is processed before this deadline, please provide us with the results of your check instead of a receipt/proof of application.
Once your application is processed, submit your results using the online form provided above before the results deadlines listed below. Failure to provide a copy of your Vulnerable Sector Check by the deadline will result in you being DROPPED from your field experience/practicum for this academic year.
EDAS 1114 Fall = SEPTEMBER 15, 2025
EDAS 1181 Winter= SEPTEMBER 15, 2025
EDAS 1114 Spring= SEPTEMBER 15, 2025
NOTE: For security and confidentiality purposes, our office can NOT accept documents submitted via email, mail, or in-person.
How to apply for a Vulnerable Sector Check:
If you are an International Student please make sure that you review the information found HERE. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct documentation for your study.
Vulnerable Sector Checks must be completed by your local RCMP detachment or Police station. Some detachments require that Vulnerable Sector Check applications are submitted in-person, while others allow online applications through their website. There may be a fee attached.
Make sure that you are applying for a Vulnerable Sector Check! Since you will be in contact with youths (vulnerable persons), a basic Criminal Record Check will not be accepted; it must include the Vulnerable Sector Check.
Third party websites such as MyCRC or Certn cannot provide you with a Vulnerable Sector Check and therefore, checks from these sources will NOT be accepted for placement. Visit your local RCMP detachment or Police station in-person or check their website for application details.
The date on your check should fall between July 2025-June 2026. If you have a recent check that falls just outside of this range, please reach out to our office (edpracticum@rdpolytech.ca) for discussion.
