Students in EDUC 1500, 2500, 3500, or 4500 must submit the following documents for placement in the 2026-27 academic year:
All students must sign a POPA Consent to Release Personal Information Form (previously known as FOIP Form). The POPA (Protection of Privacy Act) Consent to Release Personal Information Form allows our office to disclose personal information to placement sites and internally, as needed, for the placement process. Students are only required to complete this form once per program. If you have already signed this form for a previous practicum in your program, you do NOT need to sign it again.
If you have not previously signed this form, see below for your next steps:
a. If you are an EDUC 1500 student sign into your MyExperience account to complete this step in the workflow.
b. If you are an EDUC 2500, 3500 or 4500, our office will be in touch with you about this requirement.
All students must submit a Practicum Request Form by the deadlines given to them. Practicum Request Forms are emailed to registered students' RDP email accounts on the registration deadline for the term.
a. EDUC 1500 students will access the form through their WIL Portal workflow.
b. EDUC 2500, 3500, and 4500 students will be given access to an online form.
All students are required by our placement partners to present a negative/clear Vulnerable Sector Check for placement. DO NOT APPLY FOR YOUR VSC BEFORE JULY 2026!
At the beginning of July, submit your application for a new Vulnerable Sector Check for the new academic year to your local RCMP or Police Station (see "How to apply for a Vulnerable Sector Check" below for more information about this).
Keep a copy of your receipt or proof of application (e.g picture of your application) in a safe location.
Processing times for Vulnerable Sector Checks vary depending on the time of year and individual circumstances. It can take some detachments up to 8 weeks to process some applications.
To ensure that your application has adequate processing time, we ask that if you do not have the results of your Vulnerable Sector Check by JULY 24, 2026, submit a copy of your receipt or proof of application to our office. Your proof of application will temporarily save your seat in practicum as you await the results of your check. If your application is processed before this deadline, please provide us with the results of your check instead of a receipt/proof of application.
a. EDUC 1500 students can submit their VSC receipts/proof of appliction in their WIL Portal workflow.
b. EDUC 2500, 3500, and 4500 students can submit their VSC receipts/proof of application through the Education Field Experience and Professional Practicum Document Collection (2026-27) form. You do NOT need to submit your POPA Form and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) at the same time in this form.
c. For security and confidentiality purposes, our office can NOT accept documents submitted via email, mail, or in-person.
Once your application is processed, submit your results using the online form provided above before the results deadlines listed below. Failure to provide a copy of your Vulnerable Sector Check by the deadline (below) will result in you being DROPPED from your field experience/practicum for this academic year.
a. EDUC 1500 students can submit their VSC results in their WIL Portal workflow.
b. EDUC 2500, 3500, and 4500 students can submit their VSC results through the Education Field Experience and Professional Practicum Document Collection (2026-27) form. You do NOT need to submit your POPA Form and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) at the same time in this form.

How to apply for a Vulnerable Sector Check:
Vulnerable Sector Checks must be completed by your local RCMP detachment or Police station. Some detachments require that Vulnerable Sector Check applications are submitted in-person, while others allow online applications through their website. There may be a fee attached. Visit your local RCMP or Police Station's website or in-person for details.
RCMP are prohibited from conducting Vulnerable Sector Checks on persons under 18 due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Underage students must contact edpracticum@rdpolytech.ca immediately to discuss their options.
If you are an International Student please make sure that you review the information found HERE. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct documentation for your study.
Make sure that you are applying for a Vulnerable Sector Check! Since you will be in contact with youths (vulnerable persons), a basic Criminal Record Check will not be accepted; it must include the Vulnerable Sector Check.
Criminal Record Checks from third party websites such as MyCRC or Certn will NOT be accepted! These websites cannot provide Vulnerable Sector Checks.
If you need a Letter of Request for your Vulnerable Sector Check, please email edpracticum@rdpolytech.ca and include the following information for us:
Your RDP ID number
Your Full Name
Practicum/Field Experience Course (e.g. EDUC 3500)
Term
Name of the police detachment you are requesting this document for
Bachelor of Education students apply for new Vulnerable Sector Checks every July. If the date on your check is before July 2026, it is NOT valid.
If you have any questions or concerns about your Vulnerable Sector Check, please email edpracticum@rdpolytech.ca. We are here to help you. Although we have placement deadlines and processing times to consider, we will try our best to work with you around any challenges that may present themselves to you.
**All students must remember to keep original copies of their documents in a secure location as they must present these documents to their school administration on the first day of their placement.**
