Students in ELCC 1210, 1220, 2310, and 2320 must submit the following documents for placement in the 2025-26 academic year:
All students must submit a signed FOIP Consent to Release Form (typed names are not accepted) and submit it via the Education Field Experience and Professional Practicum Document Collection Form. Only FOIP forms submitted through our online form will be processed (submissions by email, mail, or in-person will not be accepted). Note: You do not need to submit your FOIP Form and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) at the same time. Please carefully read step three below for information about applying for and submitting your VSC.
All students must submit the Practicum Request Form by the deadline indicated in their Practicum Checklist. Practicum Checklists (and Practicum Request Forms) are emailed to registered students' RDP email accounts on the registration deadline for the term.
If you are currently employed in an early childhood facility and you will be requesting a Working placement, it is your responsibility to speak with your director/supervisor and/or HR department about the Criminal Record or Vulnerable Sector Check requirements for your placement. You are not required to submit your check to our office for placement.
If you are not currently employed in an early childhood facility, you will be provided with a Non-Working placement for your practicum. As a Non-Working student, early childhood facilities require that we verify that you have a negative/clear Vulnerable Sector Check (this should include a Criminal Record Check). Your Vulnerable Sector Check must be less than 6 months old from the start of your placement. If you do not have a recent (less than 6 month old check) you will be provided with a timeframe to apply for your Vulnerable Sector Check in your Practicum Checklist. Processing times for Vulnerable Sector Checks vary depending on the time of year and individual circumstances. It can take detachments up to 8 weeks to process some applications. To ensure that your application has adequate processing time, you will be asked to provide a copy of your receipt or proof of application (e.g. picture of your application) to our office using the (online) Education Field Experience and Professional Practicum Document Collection Form. Your proof of application will temporarily save your seat in practicum as you await the results of your check. In your Practicum Checklist you will be provided with a deadline to submit the results of your Vulnerable Sector Check. Failure to provide a copy of your Vulnerable Sector Check by the deadline will result in you being DROPPED from your field experience/practicum.
NOTE: For security and confidentiality purposes, our office can NOT accept documents submitted via email, mail, or in-person.
How to apply for a Vulnerable Sector Check:
If you are an International Student please make sure that you review the information found HERE. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct documentation for your study.
Vulnerable Sector Checks must be completed by your local RCMP detachment or Police station. Some detachments require that Vulnerable Sector Check applications are submitted in-person, while others allow online applications through their website. There may be a fee attached.
Make sure that you are applying for a Vulnerable Sector Check! Since you will be in contact with youths (vulnerable persons), a basic Criminal Record Check will not be accepted; it must include the Vulnerable Sector Check.
Third party websites such as MyCRC or Certn cannot provide you with a Vulnerable Sector Check and therefore, checks from these sources will NOT be accepted for placement. Visit your local RCMP detachment or Police station in-person or check their website for application details.
In order to be considered recent, the date on your Vulnerable Sector Check should fall between the following months (depending on your term):
Fall term- The date on your Vulnerable Sector Check should fall between March 2025 and September 2025.
Winter term- The date on your Vulnerable Sector Check should fall between July 2025 and January 2026.
Spring term- The date on your Vulnerable Sector Check should fall between November 2025 and May 2026.
If you have a recent check that falls just outside of these ranges, please reach out to our office (edpracticum@rdpolytech.ca) for discussion.
If you need a Letter of Request for your Vulnerable Sector Check, please email edpracticum@rdpolytech.ca and include the following information for us:

If you have any questions or concerns about your Vulnerable Sector Check, please email edpracticum@rdpolytech.ca. We are here to help you. Although we have placement deadlines and processing times to consider, we will try our best to work with you around any challenges that may present themselves to you.
**All students must remember to keep original copies of their documents in a secure location as they must present these documents to their placement on the first day of their practicum.**
Child Intervention Record Check (NOT REQUIRED FOR PLACEMENT, BUT RECOMMENDED)
You are NOT required to submit this document to the CEED Centre for your placement. However, we would recommend that you obtain this document in the event that you are hired at your workplace and in practice for when you are employed in the field. Although it is not a requirement for practicum placement, it is a requirement for employment at most programs.
Intervention Services records contain information about intervention services that have been provided to a child. The records are for determining if a person has caused a child, of whom they are the guardian, to be in need of intervention.
If you are participating in a non-working (unpaid) practicum, a Child Intervention Record Check is NOT REQUIRED FOR PLACEMENT. Therefore, you do NOT need to submit this document to our office. However, it is recommended that you obtain a copy for your own records and in the event that you are hired while completing your non-working practicum. This step is also practice for when you are working in the field.
If you would like to request a Child Intervention Record Check application form, you must email your regional office (emails listed below) and ask for the form to be sent to you. You will be asked to provide an email address (for the results) and two forms of identification (including one government issued photo ID).
