By Sarah and Anniyah
Hello. Anniyah and Sarah here with some Phantoms News!
The first stone school house was built in 1836,it's where the municipal building is. William Humphrey built the the first stone school house. The school house only had one room so the school was very small. The first teacher there was John C Southmayd. They taught school on weekdays and then they would teach church on Sundays. It was used for 30 years and a new schoolhouse was built because it got to crowded.
The second schoolhouse was built in 1866. It was located at the end of what they called school street, which is now called Main Street where the post office is, the stone school house was on a swampy area it was called skunk hollow. The whole school was heated by a pot bellied stove. The kids drank from a dipper and pail. The desks could fit two.The first school teacher there was Mrs. Bertha Cary. It was used until 1903. It was torn down in 1914.

The Elementary School Old and New
By Shannon Watson
The elementary school that we are in now used to be the high school but there have been many changes over time. The original was built in 1919.
In the late 1950s the town added on a primary wing with four classrooms, an office and a library because more room was needed. In the 1970s more room was needed so they added trailers used for classrooms and an art room.
There use to be a garden where the parking lot is. There was a playground to the side of the school that was much bigger than the one we have today.
It had a jungle gym, teeter totter, swings and slides all surrounding a garden in the middle.
In 2002 another addition was added to the school. It consisted of a new gym, which was much bigger, and new classrooms, a new music room, a new lobby and office, a new preschool and an elevator. The old gym was turned into a computer lab and a library.
The elementary school continues to change. The new music room has moved next to the cafeteria and classrooms have moved around.
