Dr. Lesli Myers-Small
Superintendent of Schools
Dear Colleagues,
We have navigated through some of the most difficult waters in 2020! I know that the experiences gained along the way have prepared us for the start of a school year unlike any other. September 14 marks a new beginning in our District, and while we won’t be in the traditional classroom, the sense of anticipation and excitement hasn’t changed.
As we get ready to embark on this journey into our new-and-improved remote learning environment, I understand how you may be feeling some trepidation. While COVID-19 has brought uncertainty, anxiety, and stress into our lives, you have shown perseverance and leadership, as we all take on incredible challenges in a “new normal” world. I am proud to be part of this team! As your superintendent, I am committed to walking this path together with you. We have amazing teachers and staff who are focused on ensuring that high-quality learning takes place for all students in our District.
With that spirit in mind, we have adjusted the start of our school year to include four Superintendent’s Conference Days from Tuesday, September 8 through Friday, September 11. All sessions take place virtually, with the focus for September 8-9 on District-based issues, and September 10 -11 on building-based issues. On Friday, you will receive an e-mail with more information on how to participate. Our work on Tuesday will focus on Health and Safety, Operations, Social-Emotional Learning, and Engaging Families.
While I will miss riding the bus to school with students on September 14, we have so many new opportunities ahead of us to begin the school year with success and promise. This is an exciting time to be in education, with new opportunities and learning for all of us. I am looking forward to a year where we all rise to this most unusual occasion to provide what is best for our students. Together, we will move this District “Forward. Together. Now.” I look forward to your partnership in this effort and to working with all of you.
Sincerely,
Lesli C. Myers-Small, Ed.D.
