The NYSED - OBEWL has recommended the name change from LOTE to World Languages (WL), a revision of state standards for WL, and final checkpoint assessments. These changes require instructional shifts for the WL classroom. In addition, RCSD is increasing participation in the Seal of Biliteracy and WL teachers' participation in helping students obtain this honor.
Learning Targets:
I can identify, find, and use the new state standards for World Language Instruction.
We are familiar with the changes and organization of the required topics that must be covered during the different World Language assessments checkpoints.
We can use short and long term strategies to help students obtain the Seal of Biliteracy.

In an effort to address teacher anxiety and burnout before the school year even begins, founding members of the TPRS (Teaching Proficiency Through Reading & Storytelling) Collegial Circle are offering this workshop on several engaging strategies that provide online opportunities to maximize comprehensible input. Participants will experience what it feels like to join a Canvas Classroom, take a quick survey on ClassTime, Circle on Nearpod, StoryTell with PearDeck, and self-teach with ThingLink. Brief tutorials will be given in all of the above listed platforms, as well as a few more.
Learning Targets:
I can teach online with a maximum amount of Comprehensible Input.
I can tell stories in the target language and make frequent checks for understanding.
I can use circling and personalized circling strategies during ZOOM meetings.
I can see what it feels like to be a student in a TPRS distance learning classroom.
I can provide TPRS lessons to students who do not attend our live sessions.
I can take advantage of the resources and tutorials that are offered to us by colleagues.
