Coach Darrin Chancellor: A Legacy of Excellence in Basketball
Coach Darrin Chancellor is a celebrated figure in Mississippi basketball, with a legacy that stretches from his playing days as a Southern Miss legend to his long-standing success as a high school coach.
At Callaway High School, Chancellor was a standout athlete who earned First Team All-State honors as a senior while leading his team to a remarkable 33–4 record and a state championship appearance. His dominance on the court earned him a Division I basketball scholarship to the University of Southern Mississippi. In recognition of his achievements, he has been inducted into the Callaway High School Hall of Fame.
A 6’5” guard for the Golden Eagles, Chancellor played 107 games and averaged 15.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per contest. Known for his smooth scoring touch, he shot 51.6% from the field, 40.0% from three-point range, and 75.1% from the free-throw line, finishing with a stellar 55.3% effective field goal percentage.
He ranks 6th all-time in career scoring at Southern Miss with 1,670 points and recorded the 10th-highest single-season point total in school history (570 in 1989–90). In the 1991 NCAA Tournament, Chancellor set a Southern Miss single-game record with 24 points, part of a career that saw him hold the school record for most points scored in NCAA Tournament play.
During his tenure, Chancellor helped lead Southern Miss to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, was a three-time All-Metro Conference selection, and led the Golden Eagles in scoring for three consecutive seasons, including during the conference finals. His senior year was his finest, averaging 18.8 points per game. For these accomplishments, he was inducted into the University of Southern Mississippi Hall of Fame.
Following college, Chancellor signed a rookie/free agent contract with the Boston Celtics in 1991, earning the opportunity to compete at the professional level.
After his playing career, Chancellor transitioned to coaching, bringing the same competitive fire to the sidelines.
Bailey Magnet High School (1996–2004): Guided his program to the MHSAA State Tournament semi-finals.
Southern Miss (Assistant Coach): Returned to his alma mater to further sharpen his coaching and leadership at the collegiate level.
Florence High School: Built one of Mississippi’s most consistently competitive programs, coaching both boys’ and girls’ teams to state prominence.

Chancellor has captured 8 District Championships and is the winningest coach in Florence High School history, surpassing 500 career victories. He also coached in the 2018 MHSAA North-South All-Star Game and was selected as head coach for the prestigious 2019 Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game.
Under his leadership, more than 70 of his former players have gone on to play college basketball, a testament to his commitment to development and mentorship.
From First Team All-State honors at Callaway, to scoring over 1,600 points at Southern Miss, to signing with the Boston Celtics, to producing championship-caliber high school teams, Coach Darrin Chancellor’s influence on the game is both historic and ongoing. His career is defined by excellence, consistency, and a lifelong commitment to the sport.

Coach Charles Williams plays an integral role in the long time success of the Eagles basketball program. Coach Williams has seen multiple district championships and big house appearances with the Eagles basketball program. He is also a phenomenal math educator, being chosen Star teacher on multiple occasions. He is also the head track and field coach where he has won multiple state championship races.
