What is it?
The Mathematics Standards of Learning identify essential academic content at each grade level for sequential learning. The content of the mathematics standards supports the following five goals for students: becoming mathematical problem solvers, communicating mathematically, reasoning mathematically, making mathematical connections and using mathematical representations to model and interpret practical situations. How you can HELP!
Practice addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts while driving in the car.
Calculate amounts of money to spend, look at the cost of items, find totals, and practice making change.
Tell time and temperatures
Integrate math into everyday activities - shopping, restaurants, gardening and bill paying are great everyday examples of math in the real world!
Keep an eye out for math concepts.
Highlight how math is used in cooking and baking.
Use math in house projects.
Point out math in sports.
Play family games - score keeping, timers, and card games often incorporate math.
