3D Printing

RCCC's CMT Program in the summer of 2021 began leveraging on 3D printer to enhance some CMT courses such as blueprint reading. The ability to create 3D architecture models and parts enable students to have a new lens to examine construction drawings with accuracy understanding. The 3D parts and models will assist students to solidify their interpretations of 2D drawings by having 2D drawings come to life in three dimensional forms. Students will be able to see why a certain view is that way through the use of 3D printed parts and models.

The black 3D model in the upper image was created by a 3D printer from the CMT Program. With real world 3D visualization, students will be able to connect the second image (actual 2D structural drawing) to the 3D black model. Too often seeing something in 2D does not equate to seeing things in three dimensional. The ability to do so greatly enhances student retention of blueprint reading.
