Date of construction; 1867

Architect; Simeon Porter of Hudson who has held distinction for having built some of the most notable post-colonial and Greek Revival buildings in northern Ohio.

Architecture details; ”L” shaped building, featuring sandstone trim and wood ornaments. Greek Revival to Italianate style, rectangular windows, and has a simple hip roof.

Located on the corner of Meridian St. and West Main St.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE PROPERTY

WHO ARE THE CURRENT TENANTS ?

The second and third floors consists of senior and assisted living apartments while the Triangle Pharmacy occupies the bottom floor.

CONNECTED EVENTS:

-1873: a "socialable" was held in celebration of the beginning of the gaslight era. The Etna House was illuminated by 105 gas burners.

-1885: a tornado passed through Ravenna. 15 chimneys of the Etna House were blown off.

-July 1891: The Etna House was made into a makeshift hospital and morgue when the No. 8 passenger train was hit from behind by a freight train. 19 people were killed, 23 were injured.

-The Etna House was one of the first businesses to sign up for telephone services which would provide direct communications.

THE RAVENNA HOTEL

The Etna House was Ravenna Hotel for quite some time.

Over the years there has been multiple changes as well as renovations to both the building and property including add-on's, new windows, sandstone, sidewalks, and a complete renovation of the second and third floors to accommodate senior living. The building has had renovations to capture its original 1865 appearance both interior and exterior.
