Kia ora and welcome to Level 2 English. The theme for this year is 'Dystopia' where we explore the genre of Dystopian texts popularised by films such as The Maze Runner, Hunger Games and The Matrix.
Analyse means to break down and thoroughly examine the parts of a text in order to understand how and why the author has used language and crafting to communicate ideas. By using analysis you can discuss aspects such as characterisation, theme, and plot development and evaluate the effectiveness of the specific aspect.
To gain a 'Merit' grade your work needs to be 'CONVINCING' This means that your ideas are credible, fully developed and well supported.
To gain an 'Excellence' grade your work needs to reach 'Merit' AND be 'perceptive', 'insightful', 'original' and 'has impact'
This is explained in the 'Studyit' NCEA link for each standard (attached on each assignment)
TURN IN work in Google Classroom.
Make sure you clearly reference (APA) any work that is not yours. Plagiarism will result in a Not Achieved grade.
UE Literacy can be gained through the basic course if an external exam is passed, otherwise, you may undertake the optional Research Assessment. UE Literacy standards are also available in other subjects (ask your whanau teacher). Here is the NZQA information.
Please come and see me early if you need any help. This course is achievable for all if you put in the effort, ask for help and don't give up.
Enjoy the year
