GCSE Further Mathematics at QPCS is an additional qualification for high-achieving students who wish to study mathematics in greater depth and breadth. The course focuses on developing higher-order mathematical skills, particularly in algebraic reasoning, and prepares students for further study at A Level.
The Further Mathematics scheme of learning is incorporated into the main Mathematics curriculum. Students in Set 1 are typically offered the opportunity to study GCSE Further Mathematics in Year 11. Assessment for this qualification is managed separately by the class teacher to ensure students are well prepared for the demands of the course.
At QPCS, GCSE Further Mathematics is assessed via the AQA specification. Students sit the examination at the end of Year 11, which consists of two written papers:
Calculator paper
Non-calculator paper
