Students studying Art Textiles should visit the following Art Galleries: The Tate, The Tate Modern, The V&A, National Gallery, The Barbican, The ICA, The Whitechapel Gallery, The Saatchi Gallery and The White Cube.
Students studying Textiles will follow the Edexcel Art Textile syllabus and will complete portfolios of work over the two years with a final 8 hour exam at the end of Year 11.
Art Textiles is a journey into the exploration of texture, colour, pattern and fabric construction methods. Weaving, knitting, crochet, appliqué, embroidery, printing, stencilling, block printing, screen printing are some of the crafts you will practise and develop.
Beginning with looking at natural forms; completing some observation drawings from primary source; referencing work of selected artists and designers; student’s work in sketchbooks to explore, refine and develop textile art.
Outcomes are personal and varied and are a conclusion of each student’s research, exploration, experimenting and development of the topic.
Passion, individual creativity, a bold approach to experimenting, mixing traditional crafts with modern materials, an open mind, an application and committed work ethic are the key to success.
This is a 100% coursework course where students are required to produce to 2 full sketchbooks with experimental work and 2 outcomes. These outcomes could be a garment, and accessory or a final experimental piece of work that takes into consideration the initial pieces of investigational work produced.
For their end of course exam students are given a brief by Edexcel to research and then they conduct an 8 hour exam using their ideas to produce a final outcome.
Leads to ‘A’ level Textiles, A level Art, and foundation and university courses.
