World History

Course Information

Course Goals

The purpose of this course is not simply to learn about people and events throughout history. This World History Course will serve two purposes:

1. Learn facts about historical people, places, and events and

2. Connect those experiences with one another and analyze their impact on the world today.

History does not occur in a vacuum; therefore we will study how specific events shaped the world we know and how they affected people living at the time.

Student Course Resources

Prentice Hall World History: The Modern Era Edition Companion Website.

Each student will be given a copy of Prentice Hall World History: The Modern Era Edition. Students will have required reading which will be assessed with short un-announced timed, reading quizzes. Students are allowed to refer to notes they took while reading as long as they are written in the student's own hand writing. I highly recommend using the companion textbook website and taking "Progress Monitoring Online" questions found with each chapter. Many questions on the reading quizzes will be taken from this website.

In addition to the companion website, I am also sharing all the textbook PowerPoint files.

World History Master Vocabulary

Students should familiarize themselves with the terms which reflect major concepts that will be introduced duing the the entire school year.

Crash Course

Crash Course is one of the best ways to educate yourself, your classmates, and your family on YouTube. Author John Green talk about World History in not one, but two playlists:

Mr. Green can talk very fast, so I highly encourage students to use close captions, pause and rewind the video when needed, and watch episodes over multiple times.
