The Choir program at Esperanza High School allows students to develop vocal technique and musicianship while performing in a collaborative ensemble setting. Students explore a variety of musical styles through courses such as Chorus, Show Choir, and Advanced Mixed Ensemble (Vocal Ensemble). Through rehearsals and performances, the program promotes creativity, confidence, and teamwork.

This elective course is designed to develop an awareness and basic understanding of basic singing in unison and parts, progressive facility in group performances, music appreciation and knowledge of music literature. This course may be repeated for credit.

The show choir curriculum is focused on the musical theatre, gospel and global pop genres. As sight-singing and vocal technique are covered in the corequisite choir class, most of class time is spent on dance, choreography and showmanship. Students will not only be asked to learn from guest choreographers, but will also create their own choreography throughout the year. A variety of dance styles will be covered in the course. Competitions and concerts serve as formative group assessments in addition to performances for community events. Students will receive P.E. credit; once the two year P.E. requirement has been met will receive Fine Art credit.

This elective course is designed for advanced and experienced singers capable of performing music especially appropriate for small ensembles. Significant choral ensemble music of all periods and styles will be studied and performed. This course may be repeated for credit.
