Summer School
Students at Palo Verde High School may choose to sign-up for summer school courses. The main purpose of summer school is to recover credits for students with a grade of "F" using the online FuelEd platform.
Courses are broken into two types:
Summit Courses represent a standard online courses. These are intended for students aiming to retake a course for a grade of "C" or higher for a-g credit and involve significantly more work.Â
Credit Recovery courses are intended to recover credit for failed courses. Credit recovery courses may not meet a-g requirements.
The counseling department does not recommend the following:
Retaking "C" or "B" Grades. Universities and scholarship programs only look for the first grade of "C" or higher.
Earning Further Credits. Students with high GPAs will tend to lower their GPA taking online high school courses over the summer. Students interested in earning advanced credit should speak to their counselor about taking courses through the college.
Some academic plans will be exceptions to the above. If your academic plan requires taking summer courses, meet with your counselor to come up with a strategy.
