ABOUT US
Mr. Hewett - Physical Education Teacher
Hello P.E. Peoples! I'm Zach Hewett, current PE Department Chair at Aptos High School. I also teach Weight Training, Advanced PE Competitive Sports (Athlete Training), and Adv PE JV Football. I've been at Aptos High since January 2015, although I previously did my student teaching at Aptos High in 2008-2009. I've also taught at Salinas High, Gilroy High, Pajaro Valley High, and Carmel High. I graduated from Aptos High in 2003 and attended Willamette University where I majored in English (I taught English for 4 years before moving to PE full-time) and I also have a Master's Degree in Athletic Administration from Ohio University.
Additionally, I am Reflexive Performance Reset Level 1 & 2 certified, a certified Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist, USA Weightlifting Level 1 Performance Coach certified, and am an Original Member of the National High School Strength Coaches Association (NHSSCA). Lastly, I've coached Football for 19 years and Track & Field for 15 years, including 6 as Head Coach at Aptos High.
When I'm not at Aptos High, I spend the majority of my time with my girlfriend Kori! We both love to cook new things, exercise outdoors, spend time with our families, and we even practice real estate together!
Physical Education is a passion of mine because it very literally changed my life. The amazing PE experience (including Competitive Sports) that I had at Aptos High allowed me to pursue my dreams of collegiate athletics, but more importantly it made me a better person and that's something that I'll forever be passionate about passing on to my students and athletes.
I believe that everyone can benefit from PE and have an amazing PE experience at Aptos High. As teachers, our mission is to do our best to make sure that happens for each and every Mariner.
