October 12th - October 16th
Hello B1 families,
OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE
Math: This week, we will have an assessment on lessons 19-23 this Tuesday. Please review the study guide for homework. Later in the week, we will begin module 2. Please keep Module 1 books at home. It is best to take them out of your students' backpacks so they do not get mixed up with the new books. Students will be working on lessons 2-4. Lessons 2 through 4 will focus on measurement. Students will be estimating and measuring mass in grams and kilograms, and volume in liters and milliliters. They will relate this concept to that of place value by using a number line and unit comparisons.
Students will have a fluency test every Friday. They should be practicing their facts for 10 minutes each night. If students do not score 85% or above or do not practice for homework, they will not move on to the next fact family. Click here for printable flash cards.
Reader's Workshop: We will be continuing in our Benchmark Unit 2 books, called Ways Characters Shape Stories. We will be focusing on summarizing and analyzing character traits.
Spelling: Compound words
Grammar: Subordinating conjunctions
Writer's Workshop: This week, students will write a narrative paragraph about a pet bat. They will use descriptive language to describe what they would do with their pet bat for the day.
Social Studies: This week, students will continue with Week 31 in our Studies Weekly curriculum. Week 31 teaches students about American holidays and symbols.
Science: Students continue to observe the traits of closely related organisms: four species of bears. Students analyze data about the traits of a particular bear, comparing the bear's traits with the traits of other bears.
