Hello B1 families, 


WEEKLY REMINDERS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS


Benchmark Tests: Your child will be coming home with their second graded Benchmark test next week. This was their second time answering these types of test questions independently. This is just a reminder that they are still learning how to take these tests, and they can be difficult. It is okay if your child is not earning a 3 right away; we will continue practicing and having a growth mindset! The goal is to master all third grade standards by the end of third grade. We will review the test this week and send it home at the begining of next week. 

Daily 20 Reading Log: Please make sure your child is reading a "Just Right" chapter book. Your child should begin a book and continue reading it throughout the week. Students are more than welcome to check library books out from our classroom library. Please make sure students are writing the book title correctly and neatly in their folders. 

Weekly Folder: A parent/guardian signature is required weekly. Students will return the folder the next school day. 

Communicator: Each day, please read the communicator with your child, check off completed assignments, then sign the communicator.


OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE


Math: This week, we will continue with lessons 18 and 19. On Tuesday students will come home with a study guide, please review it for homework that night. On Wednesday, students will be taking an assessment for lessons 15-18. Students will continue working in equal groups on multiplication and division. Students will use arrays and tape diagrams to represent problems. Students will explore the relationship between multiplication and division through the Read, Draw, Write process. 

Multiplication Facts: This week we will be starting with multiples of 1. Students will have 100 problems and will be given 10 minutes to complete it. To move on to the next number, students may miss up to 15 problems. Each child will move at their own individual pace. Please make sure that your child is practicing multiplication daily for at least 5-10 minutes. 


Reader's Workshop: We will be starting Benchmark Unit 2: Ways Characters Shape Stories. Our focus will be answering the essential question: How do our actions influence our lives? Students will continue work on identifying key details to summarize, learning about genre features, and identifying similes. 

Spelling: Long e 

Grammar: Adjectives, adverbs, and punctuation for dialogue 


Writer's Workshop: This week, students will write a narrative about a talking animal. They will use narrative techniques to create an engaging story with a begining, a middle, and an end. 


Social Studies: This week, students will continue with Week 30 in our Studies Weekly curriculum. This week we will learn more about the American government. Students will learn more about the Constitution and laws in the United States. 


Science: In science, students will continue learning how scientists observe traits, identify similarities and variations, and ask questions about the natural world. Students will explore wolf traits and human traits while using observations and graphs to identify patterns.


P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday for YAC P.E.
