As a former Sonoran Sky student, I am thrilled to be returning as a teacher! Before ever walking these halls as a first grader, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. Sonoran Sky has always been an integral part of who I am as an educator and a person. When I reflect on the many positive experiences I had here, I now recognize how transformative PILOTS was for me and my friends. I am extremely honored to continue being a part of this community. I feel my story has come full circle!
After Sonoran Sky and Desert Shadows Middle School, I graduated from Horizon in 2011. I embarked on a new journey and moved to San Francisco to attend the University of San Francisco. I received my bachelor’s degree in communication studies and a master’s degree in education. I taught fourth grade in the San Francisco Unified School District for two years before returning home to Arizona and the Paradise Valley Unified School District.
I started teaching sixth grade at Eagle Ridge in 2019. After receiving my master’s degree in educational administration from Grand Canyon University, I moved to fifth grade for the 2023-2024 school year to further my instructional experiences. Education is my passion, and my goal is to instill and foster a love of learning in every student.
Outside of school, I have a wonderful family who I love spending time with. My younger brother (also a former Sonoran Sky student) recently moved back to Arizona, and we are having so much fun spending time with one another as adults. Keeping in touch with my friends is also extremely important to me. I am still close with my best friend who I met in third grade at Sonoran Sky and recently attended her wedding!
As I embark on my eighth year of teaching, I am looking forward to creating unforgettable memories and experiences for our sixth-grade community!

I am so happy to be back at Sonoran Sky. This school holds a very special place in my heart. I attended Sonoran Sky as an elementary student. When I was in second grade this amazing school opened its doors. My mom opened the school as a second grade teacher and brought me along with her. I continued to finish my elementary years at Sonoran Sky and moved on to Desert Shadows and Horizon. After high school, I attended The University of Arizona (UofA) where I earned a degree in Elementary Education. After a few years away, I came back and taught 5th grade at our school for five years before taking time off to be a stay at home mom. Now I am so happy my six year old son attends Sonoran Sky and is following in my footsteps. This school means the world to me!
While at UofA, I met Mr. Mittelstadt and we have been married since 2010. We have our amazing six year old son, Otto, spunky three year old daughter, Poppy, and a three year old yellow lab, Chata.
I love dancing, reading, tv, going up north, spending time with family and friends, and hanging with my kids. I can't wait to see what this year brings as we take off on this new adventure in 6th grade!

Sonoran Sky Elementary is my home away from home! After all, my entire teaching career has been spent in these halls. The 2025-2026 school year will be my 32nd year as a certified educator, but I have been teaching for the district since 1990. Welcome! I hope you love it here as much as I do.
I have known I wanted to be a teacher since I was three years old. After attending Shea Middle School and Shadow Mountain High School, I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. I completed my National Board Certification in 2007 and successfully renewed it in November 2017.
Here are a few of my favorite things: dancing, listening to music of all genres, solving different types of puzzles, watching ALL sports especially football, and getting exercise/staying active. I am very close with my family and friends. We love to go to the movies and sporting events together, and, of course, we love to play games and cards!
Mr. Day and I married in 2013. We have one pup. His name is Taco Bell. He was rescued after we found him living on the streets in our neighborhood. He entertains us daily with his shenanigans. Guaranteed - there will be funny stories shared this year!
I am looking forward to another year of memories with my students and their families. Today's moments are tomorrow's memories. Happy New School Year!
