Service Providers
PVSchools partners with third parties to improve our ability to use, analyze, store, and protect data. It is therefore incumbent on our providers to step up their game in proper use of student data. PVSchools takes this responsibility seriously and holds ourselves and our vendors accountable in that regard.
The Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) and The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) introduced a Student Privacy Pledge to safeguard student privacy regarding the collection, maintenance, and use of student personal information. The commitments are intended to concisely detail existing federal law and regulatory guidance regarding the collection and handling of student data, and to encourage service providers to more clearly articulate these practices.
While, the Pledge is not intended as a comprehensive privacy policy nor to be inclusive of all requirements to achieve compliance with all applicable federal or state laws, PV encourages all of our service providers to take the Pledge. Many already have, including; Infinite Campus, Google for Education, SunGuard K12, Apple, Code.Org, Microsoft, Follett, GeoGebra, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Khan Academy, Clever, Identity Automation, IXL, Zearn, WeVideo, TurnItIn, Tools4Ever, Renaissance, etc..
Additionally, PV has started including best practices for student data privacy in all contractual Terms & Conditions. This includes secure transport and storage of information, secure authentication, roles and permissions, proper retention and disposal practices, and notification procedures in the event of a breach.
PV assesses any school provider's need to transport/store student data based on the FERPA exception. Further, PV uses security and audit questions provided by COSN in evaluating the credibility of vendors and service providers. Finally, vetting tools, starting with privacy, are used in evaluating a vendor's application to do business with PV.
Said simply, if you want to do business with PV, know and respect the privacy rights of student data.
