Arizona has undergone a number of changes in regards data privacy, governance, and retention. Recently.... PVSchools endeavors to stay on top of, adequately interpret and develop best practices in fulfilling these laws.
Arizona recently passed a law requiring parental consent prior to the administration of student surveys on the topics enumerated in PPRA and requires the state Board of Education to approve in a public meeting any student-level nonacademic data before it is included in the statewide longitudinal data system. Arizona’s new data and privacy laws require the state board to approve all non-test data (or data not relating to a core subject) that is included in the statewide longitudinal data system and post the list of these indicators, along with the reason for collecting them and with whom the data is shared, on the state’s website. New roles and assignments of responsibilities to Local Education Agencies (districts, charter, private) are stipulated in the laws, with an additional requirement of a state-level, Arizona Data Governance Commission.
PV also complies with Arizona's Public Records Laws, and specifically regarding student data, satisfies the Directory Information exemption of FERPA.
