Graphic Design

Graphic Design?

Graphic design is art with a purpose. It involves a creative and systematic plan to solve a problem or achieve certain objectives, with the use of images, symbols or even words. It is visual communication and the aesthetic expression of concepts and ideas using various graphic elements and tools.

The Role of Graphic Design

Graphic designers create visual concepts, by hand or using computer software, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers. They develop the overall layout and production design for advertisements, brochures, magazines, and corporate reports.

The Use of Colors

Color has been known to have a powerful psychological impact on people’s behavior and decisions. And this knowledge has been harnessed all too well in marketing psychology by designers and marketers alike. Color can often be the sole reason someone purchases a product. In a survey, 93 percent of buyers said they focus on visual appearance, and close to 85 percent claim color is a primary reason when they make a purchase!

We can see, from this, that the VAST majority of purchases deal more with color than they do texture, and even less buy based on smell.

This means that the majority of people will buy a shirt because they love how it looks, as opposed to how it feels and smells. Think about that -- most people will buy a shirt that smells terrible but looks pretty.

Colors

Colors obviously have different meanings to different people -- lets take a look at what the different colors mean:

Primary Colors:

Primary colors (there are three) are basic colors, colors which cannot be made by combining other colors. These three colors have particularly powerful meaning.

Secondary Colors:

Secondary colors are a mixture of the three primary colors -- while they also have meaning, the meanings are a little less cut and dried and more varied than the primary colors.

"Colors"

Black and white, according to some, are colors. According to others, they are not colors. That being said, in human behavior, they absolutely have meaning. For example, how many animals / insects can you think about that are black that are not dangerous to us?

Meanwhile, white animals (known as albino) are so rare, they are almost considered mystical.

Black:

    • Authority

    • Power

    • Stability

    • Strength

    • Danger

    • Intelligence

White:

    • Purity

    • Cleanliness

    • Safety

    • Neutrality

    • Creativity
