Phone Comparison Project

Introduction

Cellular phones are a unique beast -- we, as consumers, tend to be fiercely loyal to the brands we buy. For example, you will rarely see a person who likes both Apple products as well as Samsung products.

On the market today are two main operating systems (OS) -- the Apple OS, called iOS, and the Linux OS, called Android. Now, the Apple OS is proprietary which means that only Apple can use it while the Android OS is open-source, meaning that anyone can use it for free. This is why every maker of cell phones besides Apple uses the Android OS.

There are a HUGE amount of cell phone producers in the world -- 1300 at last count. The two main producers, however, are Samsung and Apple. As of September 2019, 19% of all cellular phones are Apple products while 21.8% of the market is Samsung. This means that between Apple and Samsung, 40.8% is taken, so the other 1,298 cell phone producers make up the remaining 59.2% of the market.

Some of the newest competitors are:

  • Google (Pixel)

  • OnePlus (OnePlus)

  • Alcatel (Go Flip)

  • Motorola (Moto)

  • Blackberry (Blackberry)

Your job, today, is to compare different cell phones and determine the different capabilities of each.

  1. You will need to make a slideshow to showcase the different phones.

  2. Use Google to find the following information

    1. Name

    2. Picture

    3. Battery size (in mAh)

    4. Screen size

    5. Screen Resolution

    6. Water Resistance (in IP)

    7. Cost

Here are two examples to help you out:

Now, the interesting thing is that loyalty runs deep. Even though the S9 Plus has a bigger battery, bigger screen, higher resolution, is more water resistant, and costs less people will still choose the Apple product because that is what they have always had. Same is true for others -- the Pixel 4 by Google offers amazing features but very few people own one, they are all loyal to the brand they have always bought.
