PG News and Updates

New Access Protocols for Shared Mailboxes

Beginning October 16, the new access protocols for shared mailboxes are now in effect. These changes aim to improve the security of shared mailboxes accessed through password authentication. Unlike individual user accounts, shared mailbox passwords are not subject to de-provisioning and remain unchanged because they are shared among a group. This enhancement ensures that only authorized personnel can access shared mailboxes securely. In accordance with this change, the service desk will no longer provide passwords for shared mailboxes.

Who does this impact?

With our new access protocols, shared mailboxes with passwords will need to take additional steps when logging into the email account. Not every shared mailbox has this functionality. For the shared mailboxes that do not have a password, no additional steps are needed on your part, and you can continue using your shared mailbox as usual. Not sure if this impacts you? Check out this list of all shared mailboxes that have passwords that will be affected by these new access protocols.

What to expect

Shared mailbox users must sign into the VPN before accessing their shared mailbox. It's important to note that your current passwords will remain the same.

Login process Post-implementation

This login process should only be followed if you have to access the shared mailbox with a password.

Full Steam Ahead - National Transfer Student Week

Celebrate our transfer students with National Transfer Student Week! This year's theme is "Full Steam Ahead". Check out our transfer resources with best practices, additional data, and ways to support and celebrate our transfer students.

How can I support transfer students to keep them full steam ahead?

Encourage orientation: Greater engagement with the orientation facilitates a smooth transition.

Encourage students to earn credit for what they know: Direct students to the Alternative Credit Center in the student portal during orientation and the first week of classes with options to explore their knowledge and experience as credit including work/life experience, course assessments, and open learning courses.

Remain transfer student-focused: As Purdue’s online university for working adults, remember that students may be unfamiliar with how to navigate some of the technology and resources.

Shout Out to Purdue Global Village Volunteers

Each year, faculty and staff are invited to join the CTL and Purdue Global Village Steering Committee to participate as part of our Conference Crew support team. These teams may make it look easy, but they put in a lot of effort, and we want to recognize them as outstanding, dedicated volunteers.

Conference Crew members are recommended by their manager. They attend trainings, build leadership skills, support their peers, engage with colleagues, and host conference sessions while working alongside the CTL team. Attendees can interact with crew members during live sessions as they will lend their voices and diversify the conference experience.

The Purdue Global Village Steering Committee is a group of faculty and staff from across the university. They assist with planning throughout the year, ideas for our theme, call for proposal process, reviewing proposals, and more.

See the smiling faces of our wonderful volunteers on the Purdue Global Village website and register to attend the conference held November 6 – 10, 2023.
