Students must complete a minimum of 350 hours during the practicum. The 350-hour requirement is divided across two (2) terms and two (2) separate courses. Students will complete a minimum of 175 practicum hours by the end of the first practicum course and a minimum of 175 hours by the end of the second practicum course, totaling at least 350 hours. The two courses take place over a 20-week time frame (two 10 week terms). 

• PS455: Addictions Practicum I

• PS456: Addictions Practicum II

Students must complete a minimum of 300 hours during the practicum. The 300-hour requirement is divided across two (2) terms and two (2) separate courses. Students will complete a minimum of 150 practicum hours by the end of the first practicum course and a minimum of 150 hours by the end of the second practicum course, totaling at least 300 hours. The two courses take place over a 20-week time frame (two 10 week terms).

By the end of the undergraduate graduate practicum experience, the student should meet the following outcomes:

• PS455-5: Evaluate ethical, legal, and sociocultural issues across diverse populations in an equitable and inclusive manner within clinical practice.

• PS456-1: Evaluate psychological theoretical modalities in clinical practice. 

• PS456-2: Apply in-person and telehealth ethical practices strategies. 

• PS456-3: Apply collaboration skills in an interdisciplinary team in professional practice. 

• PS456-4: Evaluate ethical, legal and cultural considerations in professional practice.

By the end of the graduate practicum experience, the student should meet the following outcomes:

• PS536-1: Apply theoretical frameworks to clinical practice. 

• PS536-2: Apply professional in-person and telebehavioral health practice strategies based on psychological theories and conceptual foundations. 

• PS536-3: Evaluate psychological theories and concepts in relation to a selected issue in clinical practice. 

• PS536-4: Evaluate professional, ethical, legal, and cultural considerations in clinical practice.

Students in certain states seeking licensure may need additional practicum hours under the auspices of the university. If your student plans to seek licensure in a state that requires more than 175 hours per PG practicum course (for a total of 350 hours), the student may earn more than 175 hours in PS435 and 175 hours in PS436 during the term, and may also take an extension course designed to allow students to accrue more hours. Students are given the following information:

• If you feel that you may not be able to complete the PS455 Addictions Practicum I prescribed requirements in 10 weeks, you must contact the Clinical Placement Team in order to receive permission to register for an extension course. If an extension is granted, you will enroll in PS455A Addictions Practicum I Extension, which will allow you 10 extra weeks to complete the requirements of PS455 Addictions Practicum I. Enrollment in these courses will only be granted at the discretion of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

•  If you feel that you may not be able to complete the PS456 Addictions Practicum II prescribed requirements in 10 weeks, you must contact the Clinical Placement Team in order to gain permission to register for the extension course. If an extension is granted, you will enroll in PS456A Addictions Practicum II Extension which will allow you 10 extra weeks to complete the requirements of PS456 Addictions Practicum II. Enrollment in these courses will only be granted at the discretion of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Students in certain states seeking licensure may need additional practicum hours under the auspices of the university. If your student plans to seek licensure in a state that requires more than 150 hours per PG practicum course (300 hours), the student may earn more than 150 hours in PS 535 and  150 hours in PS536 during the term, and may also take an extension course designed to allow students to accrue more hours. • If you feel that you may not be able to complete the PS535 Addictions Practicum I prescribed requirements in 10 weeks, you must contact the Clinical Placement Team in order to receive permission to register for the extension course. If an extension is granted, you will enroll in PS535A Addictions Practicum I Extension and/or PS535B Addictions Practicum I Extension, which will allow you up to 20 extra weeks to complete the requirements of PS535 Addictions Practicum I. Enrollment in these courses will only be granted at the discretion of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. 

• If you feel that you may not be able to complete the PS536 Addictions Practicum II prescribed requirements in 10 weeks, you must contact the Clinical Placement Team in order receive permission to register for the extension course. If an extension is granted, you will enroll in PS536A Addictions Practicum II Extension and/or PS536B Addictions Practicum II Extension which will allow you up to 20 extra weeks to complete the requirements of PS536 Addictions Practicum II. Enrollment in these courses will only be granted at the discretion of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
