When students are struggling, they should...
Attend Intervention in the area where they need help! See below for more information on Intervention.
Reach out to their teacher first! Teachers want to help and are the best resource for knowing how to help you in their class.
Reach out to your counselor. If you are nervous about talking to your teacher, your counselor can help!
You can also reach out to your counselor if you need help with organization, study skills, motivation, and of course mental health.
Use our tutoring options! See below for more information.
Connect with friends to study together!
Utilize the library for help on additional resources.
Students can help themselves by:
Checking their email regularly for important information from the school, teachers, and other staff members.
Using their planner or other method to track their assignments, tests, and projects.
Planning time for homework and studying within their day to day routine.
Taking regular breaks and getting plenty of sleep.
If you feel your student is truly struggling academically and tutoring, teacher help, and other interventions have not helped, your counselor can set up an SST (Student Study Team) Meeting to look at causes and solutions. Talk to your counselor to see if this is a good option for your student.
Advisory occurs daily for the first two weeks of school and then once per week for the rest of the year. Advisory typically happens each Tuesday during 3rd Block. Students have one advisor assigned to them for the entire year and the advisor will check in with students during advisory and support them throughout the year. Advisory is also where students receive schoolwide information including things like announcements and lessons on college, career, and life readiness.
Intervention typically occurs every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and offers targeted support, enrichment, and learning opportunities. Staff members can hard request a student for an intervention - for example, your math teacher might hard request you for Wednesday if you struggled with the last test. A hard request can only be changed by a staff member. If students are not hard requested on a given day, they can choose where to go (offerings listed on the Flexisched Weekly Schedule). This can be attending a class they need more time or extra help in, making up a test/quiz, going to a club meeting, attending a college talk, utilizing study hall, or pursuing other academic and enrichment activities. Hard Requests will be entered prior to Advisory on Tuesday, when students will select their interventions for the week in Flexisched. If students don't select an intervention, they are automatically assigned to their advisor who will talk to them about needed intervention areas. Attendance is taken in all intervention areas.
Intervention is the first step to helping students who are having a hard time in a class. Please use your intervention time to support your needs!

These classes will not be weighted on your Placer High School transcript. However, many colleges will weight them for college applications.
There are many online providers that provide classes for a fee (classes typically cost at least $400). These classes can be used as advancement, enrichment, or credit recovery. BYU Online Independent Study is typically the most reliable and affordable option and the course must be Teacher-Led and be listed on the A-G List in order to meet A-G requirements. Be sure to read all info and check with your counselor if you are taking a class to advance in a core subject area or meet A-G Requirements.
Placer Union High School District has approved and adopted The State Seal of Biliteracy for students who have demonstrated mastery in a second language. The State Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by California in recognition of students who have studied and attained proficiency in English and one or more languages by the time of high school graduation. California is the first state in the nation to honor high school seniors who demonstrate proficiency in multiple languages by affixing the State Seal of Biliteracy on their diploma or transcripts. It validates, certifies and encourages students to pursue and attain high level mastery in multiple languages.
Note: Interested Students should meet with their counselor to incorporate fulfillment of these requirements into their 4-year plan and to fill out the application in the senior year.
Students who fail a class required to meet graduation requirements must retake the class. If you failed a core class, be sure to discuss with your counselor during scheduling.
Since Sierra College classes can be included on transcripts and used to fill graduation requirements, they can also be used for credit recovery. Classes can be taken either through Dual Enrollment or Academic Enrichment and are completely free!
Credit Recovery is offered one day a week before or after school. In the program, you work to make up credits through an online independent study program. It is typically for students significantly behind in credits. If you are interested in Credit Recovery and are not already enrolled, please talk to your counselor to see if it would be a good option for you.
Summer School is offered online through Placer School for Adults with limited non A-G offerings. This is an option for students after completion of Sophomore year. If you are interested in Summer School, please talk with your counselor.
