The Placer Union High School District supports students having a positive work experience as well as a successful academic experience. However, this philosophy also stresses that work enhances the school experience but does not replace it. District guidelines emphasize that the student is a student first and an employee second. These guidelines mandate that the issuing of a Work Permit and the privilege to work is revocable depending upon the student’s attendance at school and satisfactory academic achievement. If a student chooses not to maintain satisfactory academic progress, a work permit may be revoked.
A minimum 2.0 GPA each semester! Grades from the previous semester and/or progress report (per counselor approval) will determine eligibility.
Maintain a 90 percent attendance rate.
Student must not have any overdue books or outstanding fees.
Please note: if you have graduated or are 18 years of age, you are no longer required to maintain a work permit.
Print the 4 page Work Permit Request Packet.
Directions for completing the Request for Work Permit packet:
Academics/Attendance and Fees/Fines: Students must meet the academic and attendance requirements to receive a work permit and not owe any fees or fines to the school.
State of California, Department of Education Request for Work Permit: This is the work permit application. There are sections for the student, the parent, and the employer to fill out. Leave the bottom portion blank.
Application Processing: Return the completed application to the Counseling Office or Career Center for processing.
Work Permit: The student will sign the actual work permit. Placer will keep a copy and the student will return the original to their employer.
The application is NOT the permit. The permit issued will look slightly different.
Incomplete applications cannot be processed (don't forget your SSN).
Work permits will be available for pick up 24 hours after drop off.
A parent may drop off the completed work permit, but the student must be present for the official work permit to be issued.
