A D M I S S I O N

ADMISSION


NO DISCRIMINATION IN ADMISSION. No student shall be denied admission to the university by reason of age, sex, nationality, marital status, religious belief, or political affiliation. The student shall comply with all the requirements set forth by the university, to be admitted to the program they wish to enroll.
HEALTH EXAMINATION. Every applicant for admission shall undergo and pass a thorough physical examination by the authorized University Health Service personnel.
PLEDGE UPON ADMISSION. “In consideration of my admission to the Palawan State University and of the privileges of students in this institution, I hereby pledge to abide by and comply with all the rules and regulations as laid down in its Academic Policies and Rules of Student Conduct and Discipline.”
1) The grantee of R.A. 10931 (UNIVERSAL ACCESS TO QUALITY TERTIARY EDUCATION) understands and gives consent to Palawan State University (PSU) or its agents appointed to facilitate the submission of needed personal data to the UNIFAST pursuant to the requirement of CHED. The grantee also consent that such personal information may be transmitted outside of PSU for transaction in relation to RA 10931.
2) Shall render the required return service before graduation of the baccalaureate degree after having benefitted from RA 10931.
ADMISSION TO CLASSES. Only officially enrolled students shall be admitted toany class.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION


Entrance requirements for each academic program shall be prescribed by the faculty of the unit or department, subject to the approval of the Academic Council and the minimum University admission requirements.

GRADUATE STUDENTS


Applicants for admission must pass the qualifying examination in the graduate program or post baccalaureate program applied for and satisfy all other entry requirements.
MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAM. Applicants shall be graduates of a baccalaureate degree with a General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least “2.0” or its equivalent in order to be admitted as a regular student. They must have at least 9 units of academic background in the discipline they are applying for; otherwise, they shall be required to take the required number of units.
DOCTORATE DEGREE PROGRAM. Applicants shall beholders of a master’s degree with thesis, with an average rating of at least 1.75 or its equivalent in order to be admitted as a regular student. They must have at least 12 academic units in the master’s level of the program applied for; otherwise they shall be required to take the required number of units.
TRANSNATIONAL EDUCATION / CROSSBOARDER PROGRAMS
DOCTORAL DEGREE PROGRAM. Applicants shall beholders of a master’s degreewith 2 letters of Recommendation/Reference.
MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAM. Applicants shall be a holder of Bachelor’s Degreein field of discipline or related field. Has English ability equivalent to TOEFL 500 points (*given by the authorized agency if medium of instruction is not English) and 2 letters of Recommendation/Reference.

TRANSFER STUDENTS


The following rules shall govern the admission of transfer students:
FROM OTHER INSTITUTIONS. Transfer students from other institutions may be admitted to a degree program, subject to the availability of slots and the evaluationof the concerned college, provided:
a) They have taken and qualified in the PSU Admission Test for Transferees;b) They have obtained the average grade requirements set by the Academic Council for the degree program they are applying for;c) They complete in the University no less than fifty percent (50%) of the unitsrequired for the degree program;
REQUIREMENTS. In addition to the above admission requirements, transferees/shifters to the following programs must meet the following requirements:
FOREIGN STUDENTS. Foreign students may be admitted to a degree program in the university, subject to availability of slots, provided:
a) They are graduates of secondary education;b) They meet the admission requirements prescribed for the degree program by the university;c) They are holders of student visa or Special Study Permit;d) They present an Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR)e) They submit a Certificate of Proficiency in English if their native language or medium of instruction is not English, based on a minimum score of 500 in TOEFL if paper-based and 173 if computer-based.f) Their previous schooling was obtained from an institution of recognizedstanding.
Students whose credentials are in foreign language must submit an authenticated English translation of said credentials, duly authenticated by the Philippine Foreign Service Post in the country of origin.
Filipino students who studied abroad shall submit the same academic credentials required of foreign students.
STUDENTS WITH DUAL CITIZENSHIPa) Students holding dual citizenship who wish to be considered as Filipinos for the purpose of studying in Palawan State University must submit, prior to admission, a xerox copy of their Philippine Passports.b) Students who choose Filipino Citizenship during their initial enrolment shall be considered Filipinos until their graduation.
APPLICANTS WITH ACADEMIC DEFICIENCES. Applicants who lack one or more subjects required for admission but who are otherwise qualified may be admitted upon approval of the Dean. Provided, such deficiencies are removed within two years.

REGISTRATION


REGISTRATION PERIOD. The registration period shall be fixed in the academic calendar.
NUMBER OF DEGREES ALLOWED. A student is not allowed to enroll in more than one-degree program at any one time.
CREDIT FOR COURSE. A student must be officially registered to receive credit for any course work.

REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION


The following requirements shall be submitted upon enrollment.

GRADUATE STUDENTSApplicants for admission to the Graduate programs must submit the following credentials at the Office of the University Registrar:
a) Original Transcript of Recordsb) Transfer Credentials (for transferees)c) PSA Birth Certificate (photocopy)d) Admission Test Resulte) 2 pcs. 2 x 2 picturef) 2 reference letters from previous employers or professors
FOREIGN STUDENTSForeign students must submit the following credentials for registration:a) Authenticated Transcript of Recordsb) Student Visa or Special Study Permitc) Alien Certificate of Registrationd) Admission Test resulte) Authenticated Birth Certificatef) 2 pcs 2 x 2 ID picture
SCHOOL FEES
Regular and Special Fees. The Board of Regents shall fix all school fees. The matriculation fee shall consist of tuition, laboratory, medical, and development, miscellaneous and other fees paid by the students upon enrolment in the university.
Refund of School Fees. A student who withdraws his registration shall be entitledto a refund of tuition fees paid, except entrance and registration fees, whether he actually attended classes or not, subject to the following schedule:
a) Before the start of classes-full refund of tuition feesb) Within one week from the start of classes-80%c) Within two weeks from the start of classes-50%d) After the 2nd week from the start of classes-no refund of fees
Note: In the event that the student is a beneficiary of the RA 10931 (universal accessto quality tertiary education), this provision is not applicable.

WITHDRAWAL OF REGISTRATION


Withdrawal of registration by the University Registrar based on existing universityrules and regulations.
No withdrawal of registration shall be made after the late registration period. The rules for dropping shall apply.
WITHDRAWAL OF CREDENTIALS. A new student who withdraws his registration within the prescribed period may be allowed, upon complying the form of request for cancellation/withdrawal to withdraw the credentials he submitted for admission, based on existing university rules and regulations.

ACADEMIC LOAD

MAXIMUM ACADEMIC LOAD. The maximum academic load per semester is the load prescribed for the semester in the curriculum. Students who enroll in more than the prescribed load for the semester will not be given credit for the excess units.
No graduate student shall be allowed to take more than twelve (12) units per semester. Graduate students who are enrolling for validation only may be allowed amaximum of 12 units per semester.
SUMMER LOAD. The normal load for the summer term shall be nine (9) units for both the undergraduate and graduate students. Graduating undergraduate students may, however, be allowed a higher load but not to exceed twelve (12) units, subject to prior approval of the Dean.
ACADEMIC LOAD OF EMPLOYED STUDENTS. The academic load of students who are employed, whether full-time or part-time, may be reduced upon recommendation of the Department Head and approval of the Dean.
No graduate student who is employed on a full-time basis shall be allowed an academic load of more than nine (9) units in any semester without prior approval ofthe Dean of the College.

MAXIMUM RESIDENCE


MAXIMUM RESIDENCE RULE. Students who fail to finish the requirements of a program of any college within a period shall not be allowed to register further in that college. Special cases shall be at the discretion of the President, upon recommendation of the Dean of the College.
GRADUATE STUDENTS
MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAM. A student must complete all requirements for a master’s degree program in not more than four (4) calendar years including leaves. If the undergraduate degree is in an unrelated field, all requirements must be completed in not more than five (5) years.
DOCTORAL DEGREE PROGRAM. A student must complete all requirements for the doctoral degree program in not more than 6 calendar years, including leaves, for those who start the program with a master’s degree in the same or similar field. If the master’s degree is in an unrelated field, all requirements must be completed in not more than eight (8) years.
EXTENSION OF RESIDENCE. Notwithstanding the provisions of the preceding articles, a student may, in special cases, be given an extension of residence not to exceed one (1) calendar year at a time, but in no case to exceed 5 years in the master’s program and 8 years in the doctoral program, provided the student is required to take 3 additional units of graduate courses for every year or fraction thereof of extension.
