Allow for staff collaboration across multiple schools
Staff in licensed, classified, and administrative positions with PSD contract or secured position for the following school year.
As staff in a licensed position contracted with PSD for the following school year, you have the opportunity to earn PSD credit for contact hours which can be used for lane change or license renewal. The option to audit the class at no charge is also available.
Attendance and participation in all sessions of a class is an expectation. Staff must register, attend and participate in at least 80% of all registered class sessions to be eligible for credit. For SI2025 classes will run 8:30-Noon. To be eligible for credit at the 80% rate, this means that a staff member cannot miss more than half an hour per day of a class. Make-up work is not available for Summer Institute classes. We cannot change credit situations once a class ends. If you have any questions about credit, please stop by and see us at the Institute.
Auditing any PSD class maintains a record of participation and contact hours will NOT show on transcripts for license renewal or lane change. Contact us ASAP if this is not your intent and you need the credit for license renewal.
As staff in a classified position with a secured position for the following school year, all Summer Institute classes will count towards the Classified Professional Growth stipend.
Yes. All registered staff in licensed positions will be compensated hourly for the time spent participating in their registered courses of the institute (PSD negotiated instructional rate of $35/hour rate). Staff in licensed positions are compensated regardless of type of credit selected. Registered staff in classified positions will be compensated at their current hourly rate if the dates/times are outside of the contract schedule. In the extreme case that a participant must miss part of the Institute or is tardy to class, they will not be paid for that time. Compensation from the Institute will show on all July paychecks. Staff in administrative positions within contract days are not eligible for additional compensation.
If a class is full, PSD staff members will be put on the class waitlist. As more seats are opened or if a registered participant cancels their registration, the PD Online Catalog will send an email to the first person on the waitlist. That staff member has 48 hours to register for the class. If they do not, the system will move on to the next person on the waitlist. If a PSD staff member is still on the waitlist when the first session of a class begins, they should not attend as this does still indicate that the class is full. Staff in this situation can contact the PSD Professional Development Department at any time to determine if room may become available.
If you are still on the waitlist 72 hours prior to the start of the class, you will not be able to participate in the class because you are not officially fully registered and additional slots in the class will not be available. Please do not show up to the class.
