Session Focus = Resources in PSD CommunityThis course will help PSD families learn and become more familiar with local resources in our community. Participants will learn about the following topics: health, behavioral and mental health services for students and families, supports for students with developmental disabilities, suicide prevention, social skills, drug/alcohol prevention, group supports and services for LGBTQIA. We will have presentations by a few of the community agencies so caregivers can learn about how to access needed services. Participants will be provided with a PSD webpage where they can access all the information provided within this course.Kaili Young, Markay Cosper and Megan Kramer
Session Focus = BehaviorsHow do we get our kids to do what we want them to do and stop doing what we do not want them to do? This is a tough parenting challenge for most parents! Several of our PSD Board Certified Behavior Analysts will discuss, model, and teach strategies for behavioral success that are used at school and can be used at home. Participants will learn: The importance of structure and boundaries, the power of reinforcement and how to maximize its’ efficacy, the use of contingencies, understanding the functions of behavior and matching replacement behaviors with function, as well as specific interventions for common challenging behaviors. There will be an opportunity to ask specific questions, as well. Join us!Emilie Ring, Hettie Huber & Laura Buser
Session Focus = IEP Development CollaborationStudents who actively participate in their IEP (Individualized Education Plan) meetings are more likely to be employed and/or enrolled in post-secondary education after graduation. Additionally, students who are informed about their IEP receive more opportunities to strengthen their self-advocacy skills and participate in their educational progress. This session will aim to give teachers, parents, and students ideas and resources to help students become more involved in not only understanding their IEP’s but also playing an active role in their meetings. This session will offer practical ideas that busy teachers, students, and families can easily implement to increase student participation.Heidi Graber, Elisha Hanford-Smith, and Stephanie Hahn
Session Focus = IEP CollaborationEveryone agrees that a well written IEP is a road map to a free and appropriate public education for students with disabilities, but it’s a task easier said than done. In this session, learn how you can create and maintain “the Golden Thread” that connects present levels, IEP goals, and specialized instruction?Brittany Hutson, Melanie Potyondy & Kelly Webb
Session Focus =Mental HealthHeather Hotchkiss & Donna Detmar-Hanna
Session Focus = Brain Development & Mental HealthWe will explore the Building Blocks of Brain Development, a simple framework to help us understand the brain, why disruptions in brain development may occur, and the barriers that may get in the way of student learning and feeling positive about oneself. Educators can apply the framework to identify skill deficits through neuro-educational assessment and address those deficits through aligned educational interventions and supports. Ultimately, all students can benefit from the increased awareness gained from this simple tool about the interaction between brain processes, learning and behavior.

Session Focus = Fetal Alcohol SyndromeAn astounding 1 in 20 students may be struggling in school because of prenatal exposure to alcohol. This exposure causes brain differences and therefore a brain-based approach is warranted. This session will provide a brief overview of this health condition and its characteristics. And a simple framework will be provided for understanding students who have been prenatally exposed to substances, and their learning and behavioral needs.Heidi Graber, Elisha Hanford-Smith, and Stephanie Hahn
