1. Make flashcards: You already utilize this skill so keep doing it. Also utilize your family. They can show you the question and you will have to answer.
2. Rewrite/re-read your notes; reorganize into categories: You can also do this with the study guides you receive. If you do not receive a study guide for a test, we can make one together in our weekly meetings.
3. Get help if you need it: We are here to help you! Remember we want you to advocate for yourself so if you need help, ask. Your teachers are here to help you, too.
4. Don’t cram and utilize your time management skills: Start studying at least a week before the exam. Do not try to do it all in one night.
5. Utilize study groups: You have friends in your class so remember it is useful to study with someone else. If study groups get off task, try to utilize your mom. I am also available to help you study for exams.
6. Study the right material: Use your study guide that teachers give you. If they do not give you a study guide, make your own using your notes from class. Rewrite the notes so you can gain a better understanding. Remember the BIG topics your teacher talked about in class. The majority of the test will be on those BIG topics.
1. Read the directions: after reading the directions, make sure you understand what the test is going to be about.
2. Read the test question first: make sure you understand what the test question is asking before you try and answer the question. It is proven that if we read the answers first before knowing what the question is about, we can get confused as the test taker.
3. Answer the questions you know first: Do not spend too much time on questions you do not understand. Go back to those questions at the end.
4. If you get overwhelmed, BREATHE: Remember what we talked about. Do some slow breathing or look around the classroom and point certain things out so you can relax and get back to the present moment.
5. Look over your test: After looking over your test, make sure you answered all the questions and did not leave any blank.
6. Have confidence: Remember that you are smart and are so capable of amazing things. Positive self- talk is so important.
