Welcome to STEM Specials at Bamford!
We will be spending the year learning perseverance, collaboration, creativity, and problem solving. Please check the grade-level page links (top right) for pictures of what your child is doing in class, and check down below for supplies we'd LOVE to have donated for future projects! Thanks so much!
Our first classes were focused on going over the Technology Contract as well as expectations, guidelines, rules, and getting our STEM journals ready.
Next, we had some design challenges at every grade level, to open our brains up to different ways of solving problems and being: curious, creative, and persevering.
Our current lessons are:
Kinder - Testing our shade structures, and getting feedback.
First - Making shadow puppets.
Second - Building our ideal bed and choosing materials that are appropriate for their intended use.
Third - Creating an invention that uses magnetism and the force of push or pull (or both!)
Fourth - Create a prosthetic hand and attach it to our own hand to pick up a piece of paper and move it.
Fifth - Designing our own 3D print!
If you're interested in seeing pictures of what we've been doing, click the grade level button on the top right corner and it will take you there. Thanks for visiting!
If you are interested in donating any supplies for STEM class, here are some suggestions (taken straight from your recycling!):
Empty and clean (label removed) pill bottles with lids
the bags with webbing that potatoes usually come in
grocery bags (either paper, plastic, or reusable)
utensils that come with take out (unused, of course)
small pieces of "squishy" foam that come in shipping boxes (not styrofoam, thanks anyway!)
fabric, ribbon, or yarn scraps
small shoe boxes or similar-sized boxes
tissue paper (like that used in gift bags)
pieces of clear plastic, like what your nametag is in when you go to a conference
